Launch Control

I wonder how many cars record launch control use as I've read a number of Audi's do.

I've already had a new S-Tronic on my A6 before 25K so don't fancy putting more strain on it with a heavy car and AWD. Does make me wonder what dealers say if you turn up with drive train problems and a load of launch control starts recorded!

Pretty simple in mine.

Ignition on.
Sport mode (gearbox).
Traction off (really off hold button for 5 secs).
Hold brake.
Hold accelerator.
Sidestep.

Mines nearly the same other than one less step.

Ignition on.
Sport + mode.
Hold brake.
Hold accelerator.
Sidestep.

An added step if you are in an enclosed space is windows down, so you can listen to the glorious flat 6 sing. :D

Mines fairly simple, LC is activated as long as the clutch is "in"

1 - Clutch in
2 - Mash throttle
3 - Drop clutch

Used it a couple of times on the road and once at Santa Pod, the reality of it is that because I have no form of traction control it basically just results in a burnout.

I mainly use it as a reverse horn when there's someone sat up my backside, it generally pops and bangs rather a lot with spark cut (decat so it would spit flames would be more useful)

Interesting question. BMW 120i/120d is one that springs to mind (with the Sports Automatic option).

My 530d is slower than a Golf R and has launch control.

All post 2013 BMW's with Sport Automatic transmission option have Launch Control.
How much difference is there between traction control and launch control when launching off

Am guessing launch control also completely controls the engine rpm's (do you just press the throttle to the floor and the ECU controls the rpm)

That's the whole premise of launch control, to control the engine rpm to minimise slip at the wheels and maintain a constant state of traction until the car is fully moving. Without it, you're relying on your own throttle pedal modulation through the revs as you drop the clutch.

Traction control is active and monitoring for slip all the time, launch control just aims to deliver the most power for available grip in a launch situation.

The biggest difference is that with traction control, it's not concerned with getting power back on, so if it kills the power (assuming that type) it'll just die off and not accelerate much more for a bit.

I owned cars with traction control like my RX8

But I never owned a car with launch control so just wondering what the difference between them was..

Thanks that explain it..

Tried it once on my A45 just to see what it's like.. pretty simple to do but thought it was quite brutal. Although fun I will not be doing it again as I plan to keep it.

On the A45 forums some claim to have used it many many times so it may be reliable but it must shorten the life of some components.

Pfft launch control?? My left leg is all I need for launching my car from a standing start lol :p.

Joking aside don't even think my golf GTD has launch control, never bothered looking but then being a front wheel drive car...don't think it would be is use to me if it had one.

Saying that when I was in Australia a few mths back, I used launch control on my brothers C63s which scared the holy carp out of me lol. Was fun but took me and my brother by surprise. All I remember is being flung back into my seat with an almighty roar from the engine and some tyre smoke as well:p.
