Do Main Dealers Hate Working On Old Cars?

Just to clarify, it was actually the MAP (Manifold Air Pressure) sensor which was faulty, not the MAF. (Must have mis-heard on the phone). Not sure if that's an item that can be changed at home. Good news is they gave the car a "complimentary" health check, which apart from a split windscreen wiper was all in the green. Handy to know with the MOT due in early January.

Might be perception but it seemed to be performing a bit better on the drive home (in as much as a stock 1.2 Corsa has any performance to speak of).

MAP sensor is litterally 1 bolt holding it on, unplug it, unbolt it, remove old sensor, put new one in place, bolt back in, plug back in, job done. i work at a vauxhall breakers and sell them for about £15 delivered.

Get yourself a haynes manual and save yourself so much money by fixing the small simple things, its always small simple cheap things that go wrong on these cars.

It doesn't really matter does it? Yes he's probably been bent over in some peoples eyes but if he's happy and it's sorted then that's that.

well yes it does, the reason most of us try to do the work ourselves is too save throwing money away.

You take a 56 plate corsa to a main dealer
They must have your pants down over the years with it.

I used independent garages for my '56 Focus from when I bought it at under a year old until a couple of years ago. Whilst shopping around for service costs I found out the local main dealer price matched Halfords and other local outfits. The added benefit of free breakdown cover for a year with each service meant it made sense to use them. When it came to repairs, such as the bonnet lock failing (again) they were considerably cheaper than the independent I'd used a few years previously.

I do the exact same thing for my 03 focus. The cost at a decent indy I've used before was almost identical to main dealer. The fact that Ford gives me free breakdown makes it cheaper. Will have to start doing things myself though even if the car has been pretty much faultless (apart from a new clutch early on :( )
That being said all ford workshops I've used have been very good.
