Bangkok in January

Oh and if you are on a budget either take cash with you and change it there, or change it before you go. Every time you use a cashpoint in Thailand, no matter how small the transaction or what machine you use, you'll incur a 200THB charge which can add up really quickly.

Yep and if you do use your card, remember the machines give you your cash before your card. I lost a bank card this way :( First day of a 3+ week holiday.

Rotty Facebook messaged me to warn me about this about 10 minutes after I nearly did it - extremely easy mistake to make!

Yeah I nearly had a heart attack when my spare card decided to not work at an ATM. Thankfully it was just the ATM playing up.

I lived in Bangkok for 5 years this was my favorite restaurant

Use the skytrain and subway, cheap, modern and safe, cabs are cheap but hail one down dont get it one that just sitting around as they will quote you a price and rip you off, always ask for them to use the meter if they say no get another one, there are hundreds.

Get a tuk tuk, its an essential thai experience, agree a price from point to point for a short journey and enjoy ride.

As someone already suggested go to Chatuchak weekend market, its at the end of the one of the skytrain routes, its amazing, they sell everything you could image, chinatown is also a must.

Jan is a very good time to go, relax and have a good time, if you get any hassle and dont want to do something just say no and walk away.

have fun.

After wedding grab taxi, head to Pattaya for a nice relax :o lot cheaper for entertainment then bangkok

youtube bangkok 112 he travels all over

Remember if a taxi driver asks to take you to his friends suit shop say yes! The taxi driver is just being friendly and would simply like to introduce you to his friends as is Thai tradition. The bonus is you get a new suit! I mean who doesn't like a new suit?

People are the same when they talk about Eastern Europe - they remember going to Prague in 1996 and think it's still 80p a pint everywhere.

Beer - Not particularly cheap in Thailand. Expect to pay anywhere between 55 and 90THB for a big beer depending on where you drink.
Meals - I actually didn't have a single sit down meal in Bangkok! I lived off street food at between 30 and 100THB, again depending on what you eat and where you get it from

I can remember it being 14.5p a pint in Prague in 2003. Those days are long gone though. :(

Cant find anywhere under a quid nowadays

Unless you are a party animal, I personally wouldn't stay on/near Khaosan road.

There's plenty of nice hotels which have good transport links. Being near the skytrain is a better option IMO.

50 baht is around £1.24 so thats very cheap. (happy hours prices). Most restaurants i paid between 100 - 200 baht for a meal including drinks. So £2 - £4.50 which is still miles cheaper than the UK.

This will be pad thai and a coke at an outdoor pop up restaurant with plastic furniture!!! Any sort of actual restaurant is at double this. Especially as the cheapest you'll find a beer for is 50 baht these days!

Night markets
Go and see some thai boxing at the Rajadamnern Stadium.
Motorcycle taxi around the city with no helmet on.
Cooking classes.
Imax cinema in the Paragon.
Segway city tour.
Star gaze in the empty park and realise it's empty because there's millions of cockroaches around. Get used to the crunching sound under your feet.

Cheap booze, good for us tourists. Not so good for the locals who want to make a living off you though :p
