How do these riots occur, I mean don't they let prisoners out of there cell's in some sort of timed pattern so not all prisoners are in an open space at the same time so its easier for guards to manage if anything gets out of hand?

Wouldn't the cost of maintaining ICU and doctors be the real expense?

The muscular atrophy would be part of the punishment until the medical science advances enough to allow comas without the risks.
It's still far preferable to slowly rotting for 23 hours a day in a cell without any internet.

Lack of staff is the usual.
2 per landing, sometimes less ; threat to staff from management that if they don't unlock (say with only 4 per wing which is below minimum, they get a red performance review), with people being locked up 23 hours a day and tension , then it can `go off` like this.

As a friend sai to me - the `screws` don't usually get hurt , only if they are an asshat towards the prisoners. When lewes went off - the officers were simply told `you have 5 minutes to leave` on unlock. They left the lansing and locked up behind them as quick as they could - pressed the alarm then it went off.

take A wing - 3 landings , so that's 6 officers, with over 100 prisoners.

I did one job there as an outside contractor. Managed to set the alarm off on the way in as my escort didn't explain the procedure properly. :confused:

My job was to dismantle some of the boxed in parts of a cell to inspect within it - the resident was there and complained smashing up his cell was his job

Turns out he was in for murder but still was affable enough.

Not really theyre healthy 1 anthestatist could watch a lot
So part of the punishment is making them bed bount for months on end in an nhs hospital?

Why not just hamstring or knee cap them in that case?

Comas always have risks ventilators damage your lungs.

Necklace ala battle royale that blows up if they go into the wrong zones or get out of control for the most vicious of prisoners.

Put it round their ankles if the round the neck idea seems unpalatable

My mate was a prison guard in Canada, he was beaten so badly he hasn't been able to work for years and got a massive payout.

Personally I'd ban gyms in prison except exercise bikes, really doesn't help matters when the prisoners are twice the size of the guards.

Or cycling to generate electricity for the local economy. Kind of like community service - they cycle and hit a certain amount they get privileges.

just spoken to a good friend - he says currently - lewes nick has 30 officers and so`s on duty - for near 800 cons.

as said - each wing for unlock should have 6 officers and an SO.... that's it.

massive understaffing is the problem

I'm 99% sure my work colleagues husband is in Birmingham HMP and on Thursday she was using her phone so much I told her she would get RSI in her wrists. "Anyway, who are you texting every 2 minutes?"
"My husband"
"He's got a phone?"
"Yeah, most of them have".
