Family Holiday safe zones

3 years running we've went to various destinations in the lakes in august for between 10-14 days and had 2 days rain. Red hot, loads to do, quicker, cheaper it's perfect.

Whilst I agree, and for the last couple of years our family holidays have been in the UK, you can't really say the muddy brown waters of the lakes are anywhere near in the same league as the crystal blue of the Med or Adriatic

Majoroty of posts in this thread tells me that the terrorists are accomplishing their goals ("terror") and the media fear-mongering is also doing its job.

This. when I was growing up it was all about the IRA but no one seemed to pay it much attention and carried on with their lives. Now people are scared to go to Hurghada lol

I felt Safer in the backstreets of the city Hurghada than pretty much any British town centre at night. Not to mention the tourist areas are cordoned off by roadblocks with armed guards etc

To the OP: take your kids somewhere with culture as an educational experience so they don't grow up like these Islamaphobic numpties.

I would love to go and see places like Petra and Ankor but would rather do so on my own rather than part of a package.(Probably not the Pyramids however, for personal reasons) but sadly, for several reasons, it will probably never happen :(

I've been and seen them all as part of a group tour with Exodus or Explore and being solo or part of a group is kind of irrelevant as you don't get to see it on your own anyway as there will be hundreds of other tourists/people there.

With a group tour, you have a local guide which is invaluable for the amount of information they can give you about the sights you wouldn't get if you went to see it on your own. You could have course go on these guided trips on a private tour. Either way life is too short and you can always find excuses not to do something, I would rather experience something amazing than find excuses and not do it.

I had a little chuckle at that.... He's taking his kids on a safe and peaceful holiday, not taking them on a crusade to show their indomitable spirit.

How about Croatia?
That place is amazing.

I'l take a look at that!

Enjoy being a traitor and an enemy of the people* ;)

*according to OCUK

I'm already a traitor or so I've been told as I voted remain lolz. I cant believe people are still banging on about the lake district, I've probably seen more of the uk than most here..... Just to confirm, going abroad is in a different league to going to the poxy lake distric.

THIS. you'd swear these people have never been abroad in their lives.

It is normally our intention to do as much site seeing as possible, as a rule tho one day at the pool one day on a trip!

Tenerife is great for the kids especially player de Las Americas , loads of play parks within pub view. :D

Second this, plus you have siam park what is a very good water park what the kids will love. and there is all Loro Parque what is a very good day out. (only down side to Loro Parque is the Whale and Dolphinshow what is excellent but i found out after we had been about there treatment of the animals.) Apart from that both are great days out with the family. We have been twice as a young family in recent years.
All the Canary Islands are a good call to be honest, but can't truly comment on the family holiday aspect as we have been the other yet.

UK holiday's can be great but not everyone has the luxury of having a car with the ability to drive anywhere.

Getting the train from one side the UK to another is stupid expensive. Can cost over £300, cheaper to fly another country. Unless you book train tickets waaaaaayyyyy early you are stuck on a crowded train with no seats for hours.

I rather fly to another country for an holiday, which I do anyway.

Been there, loved Loro Parque.... Remember just hanging out in the penguin enclosure because it was so warm outside!

Ended up paying 2200 for 10 days all inc to Lanzarote Playa Blanca in September. Happy with the price, there was a mega discount online, then phoned the shop and they gave me a further 100quid off.... The hotel is 4 stars and has decent reviews!

+3?

I just came back from sunny Tenerife and even with the bad exchange rate food and drink is cheap there although like anywhere it pays to shop around. Just be warned Tenerife sits off the coast of the Sahara desert and in the summer time it can get to 40c+

Absolutely this, beautiful sea, beautiful women, great food, cheap beer. The only thing really missing is sandy beaches, but to be honest, a rocky coastline is far more interesting anyway!

Another +1 for Croatia; Split was amazing. Dubronovik is supposed to be lovely too.
