Merc B Class

Hi All

Anyone own a post-2012 B Class?

Looking at the SE Model but more so the Sport version (looks and styling)....with the Sat Nav, Parking Sensors and Reverse Camera...but ive heard/read bad reviews on the sports supsension...then again ive heard you can actually op for a Comfort Suspension.

Heard the rides very crashy, stiff...but then i myself own a Civic Type S and thats not a very forgiving drive over potholes for instance.

This would be a family car, so the boot space and interior and general looks of the car have been the appeal...we havent driven it yet.

Looking at the Sportage and also Qash for no more than 11k. Preference is the Sportage (model 2/3) or B Class at the moment.

Anyway ive read the reviews but ive also seen owners reviews have mentioned its not as bad as the expert reviews make out.

Any owners on here with an opinion?

Urm daft option

Honda FR-V?

Has all the toys and room option sorted that you need (even the adult and 2 kids in the back?

Maybe abit older then you wanted, but still looks quite modern IMHO?

Mother in law had one for 4 years. It was a 180 petrol sport. It was ok for what it was. Decent build quality inside and fairly quiet. It's not an enthralling ride or much of a looker though. Servicing was expensive and it ate tyres. I'm looking into the possibility of having a b250e to replace my Zoe in the Spring but not sure just yet.

Merged your B class thread into this one - you don't need to keep making new threads when they are related. Thanks - Armageus

Did see these, newest i think is a 2009/2010 but ive heard theyre good and im a Honda man of late.

Seen now that a 2012 Honda CR-V is within my budget...all of them are the 2L version.

Its probably going to come down to the Sportage v CR-V v B-Class

I had all the same issues with my missus, so frustrating. We had a Qashqai but with 2 kids and a dog it was too small. If you can stretch your budget a bit have you thought about a 2010-2012 X-Trail. Not the most economical but my missus loves hers, you can fit tonnes of usual crap in them. The 170ps one isn't a slug either. Looks like a brick but lovely cars as family wagons.

Edit: 4wd is brilliant for winter driving too

Just had a look on auto trader, if you look at 2008 onwards there are loads of low mileage ones within your budget with lots of toys like reversing camera huge spotlights on the roof etc. We had a sports expedition extreme previously and you could see for miles. I'm sure people thought a UFO was coming over the horizon at night.

Before 2007 they were smaller so definitely avoid.

It is a tad, i mean she likes the B Class the best, me im torn as i think it looks good, but we havent driven any of them. Im swaying towards the Sportage tbh.

X-Trail is a bit too much/size wise...we have one baby, but this time next year hope to be expecting a second, no dogs/pets either.

I think March/April time there will be more options (as i was surprised to see the CR-V's coming into the fold)...so im hoping more variety. But i cant see past the Sportage overall...i just want the best spec - 3 or 2 with some extra's :-)

Thank you though for the advice

She needs told then.

Not at all matey...Sorry not interested in an MPV, as i said SUV will be suffice.
We have 1 child and hopefully another on the way in the next 2 years.

Also its not about whose boss etc, as shes still got to like the car...were no longer cave men! Even if you did mean it in a jovial way. I wont be speaking to my fiancee like that :D

lol. Point taken. It has been my experience though, that you can pretty much get what's going to work best, and despite the OH's initial attitude, they quickly come around when they realise that you have actually supplied them with the correct tool for the job.

SUV's, like the ones being considered, generally have rather small boot-space. That's the problem with them. I looked at loads when trying to "upsize" from the 5 series, and most of the SUV's we looked at were just comical. The likes of the Q5 being the worst. Even the back of the smaller 7 seaters (well, 5+2's) like the Discovery Sport aren't really much bigger than the back of a 5 series touring.

But, if you do go for some small-mid sized SUV, if it has the third row seating at all, the boot may be manageable. If it's a straight up 5 seater, then you'll always wish you had more boot space.

I think it's worth pointing out that there are 4-5 of these threads around at the minute and in every single one SUV's are too small for people with 2 kids.
