Ex-Wham singer George Michael dies

That's life folks. Maybe the use of drugs hasn't helped over the years and not everyone wants to live to a grand old age as that's no fun either :).
Sad but many talented people the world over die each day who we don't even know (ie, not a celeb).

Very true, I like to think we can all learn from things like Parfitt's and Michael's life and death. One thing is obvious, fame and fortune mean nothing if one swirls around in a cesspit of drink, drugs, casual sex and with total disregard for ones own, and possibly others well being. It catches up with you in most cases. Neither were musicians which I particularly liked, probably I am partly moralising about their hedonistic lifestyle in that judgement, but hey, I too am but human, and I am sure in their spheres they were superb, rest in peace.

His death has saddened me more than my father's last year.
I know might seems weird for some, but not for me.

Even if a cover, was one of his best. (which are many, more to fill up 3 albums).

And imho one of his best as WHAM

This whole "2016" deaths thing - People do realise it is going to be like this in 2017 too.....and 2018....and 2019 - Of course more high profile people are going to die - The baby boomers are getting to a certain age - The world of "celeb" became more prominent since the 1980's - It's just science and maths.

No there seems to have been a spike in 'celeb' deaths this year thus the comments about it. Sure celeb is a rather vague classification but the perceived jump (which can be quantified to some extent by looking at obituaries that made headline news) is seemingly significantly higher than previous years.

Yeah that is a bit weird TBH. Actually no, depends on your circumstances I suppose, I recently found out my 'birth father' a man whom I had zero contact with died a while back, and I didn't feel much at all. Of all the 'celebs' who died this year, I think I have been most upset about Alan Rickman :(

I struggle to feel anything for any celebs, the closest I ever came to feeling anything remotely close to empathy was when Schumacher bashed his head in. That upset me for half an hour.

The whole social media fiasco around any celebs death, even the obscure ones, amuses me greatly.

Yes 'upset' is probably too strong a word.I liked him as an actor, and felt he went too soon. As for George, 53 is no age, I'm only a year younger, but abusing your body does tend to catch up with you after a while. An alcoholic friend of mine had a serious stroke last week, he's 55.

yes unless you have a shrine or real dedication to something they did then it can be over the top in reactions.

as someone just posted it isnt just 2016 it will be every year.

its mainly because of the generations of people and ages and pop stars movie stars who are in the brackets.when some die younger then yes its a bit of a shock.

musician wise prince for me which i found more odd or a bit of a connection to more than the others.

Actually isn't weird given the circumstances, unfortunately. But is not this place to discuss about family issues...

That's my point - You cant at this point actually say it is a spike - Will only know as we go into 2017 and see if it continues, which is likely given the factors I referred to. So more like the start of an increasing trend rather than a spike. People won't stop dying. More people will die because of the rate of population growth post war.

2 celebs I worry about now are Harrison Ford and Clint Eastwood. Clint less so because even the reaper can't stare down the man with no name :)

But Indiana......I get the feeling he has been making one last push (force awakens, Indy 5 and blade runner 2) before surrendering to the reaper. He just looks so frail....

I remember seeing an article where George Michael admitted to smoking 25 joints a day, Although excessive, I don't recall hearing that he was a hard user of anything else other than marijuana? Was he a user of anything stronger?

I did notice how terrible he looked more recently. Looking very bloated indeed.

No matter what, It is an incredible loss of life at such a relative young age. To think also he passed away at home and on his own on Christmas day makes his death more sad imo. No Kids, No real love interest and minimal family in his life is not something I would like to contemplate for myself. Seems after all the riches he had, he seemed to live quite a sheltered and lonely life. R.I.P George undeniable talent :(
