Because for that 100 yards you could move over and let quite a number of cars that have been stuck behind you past.

It's called courtesy.
 
As a cyclist in London I can guarantee you that cars hold me up all the time and not Other cyclists. Can we ban cars from the road please because they do hold me up?? As a driver I can say that cyclist probably holds me up for all of 5 minutes a year if that. Maybe my attitude towards cyclists is different because I've got experience from both sides. Which sadly majority of road users lack.

OK, but I assume you realise your error in having the outlook that the roads are there to service you and your car alone? Because that's exactly as it comes across. Let's turn it around: Despite coming across many horse riders on my rides, I have never nearly been killed by one riding like a maniac.

If motorists behaved more like horse riders, there really wouldn't be an issue...

So, the same old circular argument. Cars are not the only vehicles that use our road network. The soonest motorists amend their self entitled outlook in that respect the better.

Why would they do that? Did you help pay for their car, insurance, tax or petrol? Did you cycle round their house and offer them a piggy-back ride to the shops so they can get a paper? :p

If there are problems with the cycle lanes/paths, then you should take that up with your council. If enough people did that, maybe the councils would do something about it. Maybe they still wouldn't, but if you don't complain to them, they definitely won't do anything about it.

The amount of times I've approached a row of parked cars on my commute that I could easily get past, only to be overtaken by someone who then stops right in front of me because they decide they can't make it before the oncoming traffic gets there, is ridiculous.

Some people just don't think about others. It's life on the roads unfortunately.

Also, I've had cars sit behind me, and I'm just thinking "plenty of room, just overtake". So, there's a queue of cars behind, and I expect I'm getting blamed, but it's not my fault, it's the fault of the dawdler sat in a Nissan Micra who's scared to go above 25 mph in case their eyeballs burst.

I can honestly say in 41 years of driving I've never been held up by a cyclist but I get held up by slow cars and lorries all the time.

now if all the cars just moved over I could actually get somewhere on my bicycle.. ! would solve all the problems ;)
 
Stuff cycling between all the traffic like that in London. It's not worth risking some plank flattening you with their motor.

Hats off though, some epic negotiating there and good speed through London.

yeah but sadly I've got 3 choices.

Drive - 2hours or so to cover 11ish miles + £28/day parking
Train + tube = 1-1.5hours in a train packed to a point where you can't move + daily delays and ~180/month on ticket
cycle - 45-50mins to do it, free, no delays other than traffic slowing me down. Least safe option but I've been doing it for over 5 years with 20k+ miles under my belt so I can say that I have a reasonable amount of experience. There's that risk at all times but nothing I can do about it.
 
Cyclists cant really win can we.

We use the road,Drivers get mad and do dangerous things.
We use the cycle lane (if there is one) cars are parked on them.
We use the path (we get moaned at)

So where are cyclists suppose to be? :D


In my area in around a 2 mile radius where i live there is not one cycle lane.

Yeah, I guess it would mean you wouldnt have to filter up the wrong side of the road @ 1:38.... Or going in the right turn only lane when you were going straight ahead @ 6:21 and cutting in at last minute... Or again filter onto the oncoming traffic around 7:04 and again @ 7:34 (forcing the oncoming red car, I think a Golf) over... Pesky cars forcing you to do stupid maneuvers....

On the cycle path I use, its annoying at every side road you have to give way. It just makes cyclist use the road as its faster.
Not sure what can be done really to solve that.

At no point did I say others were not doing wrong (like the van @ 6:21) but I am discussing YOUR actions as YOU posted a video showing YOURSELF doing it... Actions which you seem to try and then justify.

If using what other people do (even if they are wrong) is justification to yourself for you doing the same wrong thing then have at it... Doesnt mean you are right though. Also, since when is going onto the other side of the road into incoming traffic the "normal/legal" thing to do... it aint... If a car did it, you'd no doubt state they were wrong...

Then again, its Grudas - the poster who will argue his point ad-absurdum even if he is obviously wrong...

Can I ask - If you had hit one of these vehicles whilst on the wrong side of the road... would you blame yourself or the driver?

Slightly OT, but this always annoys me, and not just on cycle lanes/paths. Where I live people constantly drive up the kerb blocking varying amounts of the pavement and the Police and Traffic Warden (singular) completely ignore it, and almost all of these roads have rear access to their properties.

Which part of "It is a criminal offence to drive on the pavement" is unclear? So if you've parked on the pavement, you've clearly driven on it and have therefore broken the law and should be fined.

Having a dropped kerb does not mean you can park there either. It gives you the right to cross onto your drive, not just stop there.

Gets right up my nose. When people in wheelchairs or with prams want to get past they actually have to walk into the road to do so. I'd be a Traffic Warden for free if it meant I could ticket every single one of these idiots.
