The Stargate Reboot Film Has Fallen Apart

I am glad to be honest.

Big fan here as most of you are. I just want good things left in the past now. Universe as I've said many times should never have happened - it was so dire. Rubbish characters, rubbish episode titles, sod all intro - it was just a pale BSG wannabe. Think I stopped after the first season because there wasn't a single character that I liked.

good - it was bound to be crap.
original film was weak.
series were good except for universe (although it did get better later on as people said).

universe had far more potential than the %%%% that was sg1.
it stil fell into the common sci fi rubbish format, like 99% of them, thanks to star trek who have held back the genre by decades, with lack of story arc and a very distinct format that is copied overwhelmingly by most.

as for this new film, not bothered, an interesting universe that the'yve consistently failed to make good films/shows about. All though the original film is still the best of the franchise, really hasn't aged well though.

Roland Emmerich has found something else to do instead; direct the upcoming adaptation of Blake Crouch's novel Dark Matter.

There goes any hope of that turning out to be a half decent film.

I watched the original film recently. Great ideas but surprisingly boring.

I watched it again recently too; it is not terrible, but it is nothing special either, it is just 'ok', like you said though it does have some good ideas.

Are you joking?

At the time of it's cancellation Universe was far and away the best Stargate show that had aired, the network gave it no chance to survive with days and times it aired at so it was always doomed to fail.

Regardless of whether you liked Universe or not, it definitely wasn't a Stargate series. It was totally different to everything that had gone before and only had the most tenuous connection with the Stargate. It could easily have been written as a standalone show, not set in the same universe (no pun intended) at all with very minor changes.

I'm actually quite glad the film reboot has died too as it didn't need it. It was very average to start with and everything Emmerich touches these days is utter garbage. He has no idea what he's doing and just thinks bigger effects and explosions is all you need. 2012 was about as farcically OTT as it's possible for a disaster film to get and ID4/2 was one of the worst films I've ever seen (no I'm not exaggerating).

Yes and no - some stuff was way off Stargate (i.e. some of the enemy and fantasy stuff, etc.) - but AFAIK the stuff with the ancients, Destiny and stargate seeding, etc. is all proper Stargate backstory.

After Independence Day 2 Emmerich should be kept as far away from Stargate as humanly possible!

As for the shows all had their flaws:

SG1, the need for laughs under minded the dramatic elements in the end. Not every one need to be like RDA.

Atlantis greatest strength by the end had become its biggest weakness, by the end Mackay was just unwatchable in the show. His actions had lead to the death of characters and yet Shepard let him away with everything making me dislike that charter too. :(

Universe took far too long to find its feet I don't blame any one that didn't come back after the first five episodes. It didn't help that Universe season one mid season two parter was terrible. Who would come back after that?

Over all I don't know why any one would want Emmerich back?!?! He had nothing to do with the shows and 99.9% of the value of the Stargate franchise was because of the shows.

Not really a shame, I think the stargate tv series franchise covered everything including the kitchen sink.

They admitted so many times most of the cost went into the CGI also, but each show had its own pros and cons but still loved them all but any re-boot and it would just feel meh.

Its clearly time for something new and original

Don't forget SG1 started in 1997, in that regard it was well ahead of most if not all regularly aired alternative sci-fi shows.

Heck most people didn't even have mobile phones then, the PlayStation or N64 were the console's of choice and you could still buy a brand new Ford Escort. VHS and 15-21" CRT TVs were normal and we had only just just got our fifth uk TV channel.

People being too harsh on Universe. It had potential and the show (and crew) could have gone literally anywhere. A lot of die hard SG fans didn't give it a fair chance as it effectively ended Atlantis.
SG1 and Atlantis were fun shows but nothing more than that really.

However, does Stargate need cinematic reboot? I don't think it does. There is nothing wrong with the Russell/Spader original.
