Just a very quick one, but does anyone have a Fury X which doesn't make a noise from the coils when under load?

Had mine almost a year now and after the initial advice was just to ignore it and it will go away after bedding in it's no different all this time later. I've now got an RMA from OCUK to send it back but was met with the usual "well it's got to be louder than a certain threshold to be classed as faulty" etc etc. So while I'm happy that it probably is I'm just wondering if I'm likely to get a better one back in return if that's possible?

Thanks.

HI , I have the Asus version and no coil whine here. I got it as "B Grade" stock too! But it works a treat.

Mine is the Sapphire one, but aren't they all basically the same, all reference design?

When is it making the coil whine sound?
Is it during gaming? or during uncapped fps like menu or cutscenes?

During gaming straight away.

I have a MSI FuryX and it has the pump noise but no coil whine so it’s a constant noise idle or under load. It not very loud but its distracting.

Amd claimed this issue was fixed, even as recently as a few months ago i had a new fury x for a system and it still had the pump whine.

That was half the problem, I didn't trust the claims that they were all fixed, I waited for about a month for new stock to come in but there was still claims that some of the new ones whistled so I went with the air cooled Fury instead, AMD's refusal to sell fully chipped air cooled card was a joke. I got one of the 1st gen overclocked Fury tri-x's and it's a lovely card that's both cool and quiet, The cooler would have had no problem keeping the Fury X chip in line,
I pray AMD don't do a similar move with big Vega.

Yep didn't make sense, the tri x cooler would be great on a Fury x and would have got the price down a bit too

I waited about 6 weeks after the FuryX launch to try and get one that was fixed but found one selling cheap (£500) compared to OCUK (£650 lol). I only got one as I wanted a cool and quiet card, it’s been cool but not quiet. Overall, it’s been a good card and I have my headphones on most of the time so cannot hear it.

Yup, but amd were stuck in this "premium" mentality so naturally opted for an aio that was cheap but slapped a premium price on it. The 295x2 cooler never had any issues with pump noises or anything, so why they didn't stick to that manufacturer is confusing, just seemed to want to get maximum returns so went with an cheap unproven **** for the furyx.

I will agree with Gerard. 295X2 AIO was superb, no noise or other issues for the two years I had it.

Mine has a EK block on it so I know it's not pump noise as it's not fitted. Also been through a couple of different power supplies so hopefully it's not noise from that either.

Will send it back on the open RMA I have and see what happens. Be nice to get one back which was quiet as it's really annoying but apart from this a great card.

Thanks all.

Well the card was received back with OCUK on 11th Jan, 13th I got notification it was being sent back to Sapphire for repair/replacement.

See what I get sent back...

Out of 8 Fury X cards I've only had 1 that whined badly under load (ie not game menus/crazy uncapped FPS). Owned also 1x Fury Tri-X and 2x Fury Nitro, prefer the Fury X with AIO TBH :) .

Had no issues with AIO/pump so far, I hope Vega has AIO as well. Oldest card I've had is since March 16. Most of the cards have been production dates in 2015 weeks 38 to 46 when I asked Sapphire via ticket system.

Some of the early ones can be flashed and unlocked to full Fury X's, there is a program to run that tells you if all or some can be unlocked, can't remember what its called or where from, but I found it with the help of google, mine couldn't though unfortunately.
