Overwatch

Maybe try tank or support? I find it relatively easy to get some golds by just picking soldier before anyone else. If you can see someone else not being very effective, ask if they want to swap maybe?

Not sure there's a huge amount else you can do. I've slid the last few days, down around 1900 at the moment I think, had some terrible games. Then maybe you have a great game, everyone opts to stay together and you can just as easily get smashed the next game, with the same team!

Been getting hammered in competitive. Its my first season and I'm rank 50 so not much playtime.

Here's the problem: the game pairs me up with idiots.

Suggestions?

Don't solo queue, unless you are a glutton for punishment.

And if you must, play late in the evenings, where the good players are most likely to be around, and the casuals off to bed. And do not play competitive on Saturday or Sunday afternoons. It's full of, well, idiots.

If you are teamed up with 3-4 players, it won't matter so much either way. Parties usually mean business, and you are matched against other parties.

There are already a few OcUK members posting battlenet tags. I guess it would be nice to have a table tucked somewhere, with all the tags and estimated ranks.

Maybe Blizzard will allow 'clans', 'groups', 'guilds' and such. Wouldn't hurt to have a OcUK clan of our own.

I can get 3/4 gold when I pick soldier but I'm not helping the team as much as that might hint at.

You do your job (picks, damage, elims, don't die stupidly), then that's all that matters really, for a DPS.

I wish they'd remove shield damage as actual damage. Firing against shields, shouldn't really count in stats.

And also, stats comparison with ALL the players, not just the team mates, to see how you actually stacked up against the opposition.

If you loose heavily but are still Gold Elims, Kills, and Damage, then you have the right to salt!

I use Oversumo (Android) for that. It actually gives you stats vs other players (tiers like the normal game).

The tiers match up roughly to how good I am with each character.

I do queue on my own, that could well be where I'm going wrong.
I'll try the OcUK discord server or TS or whatever people are using these days, hopefully this will help. The table of battlenet tags would be very handy- although a PITA to put together.

Solo que is fine (when and if) you find a good team you get matchmaked with to join a group.

Here's the problem: the game pairs me up with idiots. I'm consistently hitting gold damage/eliminations and I'm almost certain my team a standing back and laughing at me do the work.

I can't be the only one with this problem. I started on 2250 after the placement games but now I'm down to 2000 due to the team pairings, seriously every game I go into someone wants to be hanzo or torb and we get smashed.

Suggestions?

I wouldn't expect a level 50 player (what's that, less than 30 hours playtime?) to be any higher than 2000 tbh. You're simply too inexperienced to rank up at the moment.

Play the game and have fun for a couple of months then once you put in 300-400 hours re-evaluate your skill.

The ranking system works and places you where you should be at your current skill level. You're new so don't expect to be grandmaster just yet. Get better at the game and you'll rank up for sure.

Thanks, looks a pretty good app for checking your level. In Competitive Mercy I'm a Plat III (with Master Def Assists), Soldier (Diamond Final Blows) and Lucio (Mast Sound Barriers) Plat I.

You do get destroyed in competitive by your team mates if you're playing the wrong player!!! How do you know what should be played if they won't advise

Finally hit 25 and decided to risk going straight into competitive, Got my 10 games out the way and have been ranked at 2142 :D

Not bad for my first season.

Battletag is Etheco#2934 if anyone needs an extra :)

Oh, I don't doubt that I need practice but to be continually the best player on the team and lose so much is starting to rub me up the wrong way lol.
It seems the matchmaking needs work.

Without sounding rude you probably aren't the best player on your team. Medals don't really show who is the best. Soldier will always get gold damage and elims even if he's not doing so great for example.

This

I have lost count of the number of games in which i have single handedly won the game by prioritising targets or focusing on certain objectives, yet end up with bronze medals.

That's a first, I actually got asked to play Soldier... I must have impressed.

It's games like I just had that make it worthwhile though. Started off an invite to a threesome (snigger), the two guys happy to communicate and adjust as needed. Then found 3 others the same, so teamed and obliterated a couple of 6 man premades.

I needed that after some of the awful teams I've been on this weekend!
