Overwatch

Incorrect.

Low level doesn't mean that they are a worse player than a higher level one (ignoring secondary account stuff).

But that person is 'likely' to have far less experience. My ability to predict things and intuitively know the flow of a game is vastly better now I am level 200 than when I was level 50.

It is not a black and white definitive issue, but experience is experience.

Agree with this strongly. I'm awful at this game, but am very slowly improving. None of the improvements have come from my general FPS ability, which is OK. It's all in learning the maps and, more importantly, understanding WHY my team is getting battered and being able to come up with a different plan of action to try to counter.

I'm nowhere near understanding it in full yet, I'm lvl 80 and still consider myself a noob, I'm learning loads with every session still.

Amazing just how much depth this game has, for what at first glance just seemed to be a fun game that wouldn't last me more than a few hours.

Level is play time, it doesn't show anything in terms of your ability to aim and move, which is primarily a fundamental of any FPS game.

Yes it's a given, I'm talking in the sense of previous team FPS experience (CS:GO, TF2, even Battlefield).

And yes Overwatch has a lot of "nice to know" stuff, but most FPS experience is transferable to this game. Assuming you don't go solo and actually talk, a soldier can't take out 6 people for example.

TLDR: Each to their own opinion

For me it's like 1 in 8 or 10 games that is actually a close interesting game. All the rest are stomps that are quite obviously going to be stomps by about 2 or 3 minutes into the game.

Exactly! I bring this back up as people are determined to say it's OK and I'm genuinely confused by my experience every day, it's good to know others feel the same! I'm either in a stomping team or being stomped.

Someone mentioned pressing the team up button?? Then you face premades with your random group and the likelihood of being stomped increases tenfold!! From my solo experience it's best to stay away from the team up button playing with randoms being grouping with 4. Any more and your against premade 6's.

Are the guys who say matchmaking is OK playing solo? It is not really fair to comment if your grouping with 4-6 players, then your mostly playing randoms and/, or and your ever likely to have a completely different gaming experience.

And no, "find friends" isn't a solution to the majority of solo Gamers, just before anyone mentions it.

So... what should I say? My experience generally is okay. I'm not saying you're lying. I'm not saying it's perfect. I'm just saying, these days it seems to be fairly balanced.

Or you face another bunch of guys that have just hit their 'Team Up' buttons. In my experience, when I've been in a team that works together, swaps about as needed and you win a game. We team up, 4, 5 or 6 of us and quite often win the next game. There is a chance the next game we might draw a proper pre-made and maybe we lose, but generally it's still a good game because I'm playing with people that aren't toxic and will to help each other out. That's a better experience, even if you lose.

Yes, the vast majority of mine has been solo. It's only been the last week were I've met some others that like to team up and we have done a few times over the last week.

My boy wants this game, would you recommend it for a 10 year old? So far he is into coop platform games but I am concerned about the toxic element of it.

Yes it is really toxic I would probably avoid it for a 10 year old, a lot of people on there only use their mic to abuse their team mates.

If you do get it you would probably be best turning voice chat volume all the way down. There would still probably be people abusing you're son in text chat but it's easier to ignore and less offensive than the voice chat which plays through your speakers even if you're not using a mic.

I've played 200 hours now. I think I could count on one hand how many have actually been abusive through voice comms in that time. But yes, it does happen.

Most whinge and moan in chat and again, this sometimes gets abusive, but probably only 1 in 10 to 20 matches if not less have actually been abusive.

From what everyone else says, I must be in the minority, but this is my experience.

Had a good winning streak last night got up to 2179 :D Seems me just locking in as Roadhog I have a better chance at winning while queuing solo or with just a single friend.

Although this is true - you could just get it for him but pre-empt the kind of thing he's going to run into by encouraging him not to take any notice and not to be toxic to others... Can't keep kids from these things forever!

(Definitely at least show him how you can block the mic and/or chat from another player or all other players... teach him that as soon as someone starts being mean to just block them)

What character you play? I know I was fine when I used to play roadhog but since I started playing symettra nearly every other game someone is shouting and swearing very loudly.

I know the same thing happens when someone wants to play bastion, widow, torbjorn, hanzo, gengi.

my 9 year old has it for his xbox one. Basically jsut plays it with his friends - doesn't bother with competitive etc. He loves it.

They just play matches between themselves etc. That way not play comp, he doesn't get involved with people he doesn't have on his friends list

Sad times as a D Va main player

Not happy about the changes at all. Played in PTR and she now gets melted by solider/roadhog etc due to only having 200 shield and less damage output........such a shame.

Looks like I'll need to main another character now.

A new update is now available on Overwatch's public test realm servers, bringing with it the promised Roadhog nerf and more.

As described by Blizzard recently, this update prevents Roadhog from pulling enemies around corners. Instead, Chain Hook pulls enemies "directly in front of Roadhog (rather than straight to him), except in cases where Roadhog drastically rotates," which should prevent players from being dumped off of cliffs. When a player is hooked, they'll be let go if they leave Roadhog's line of sight. Checks on his line of sight are now done based on Roadhog's position, rather than that of the hook itself.

According to Blizzard, "The hook should now feel more consistent for Roadhog players, but it should also feel more reasonable to his enemies, as they cannot be hooked or pulled around corners anymore."

Blizzard also nerfs D.Va to a small extent with this update. She loses 200 armor but gains 200 health, and her weapon now deals less damage. She fires more bullets per shot (11, up from 8), but each bullet does less damage (2, down from 3).

"D.Va's armor often made her feel like she had no weaknesses, even against heroes that are often effective against bigger targets (like Reaper)," the patch notes state. "The changes to her Fusion Cannons will result in a small overall decrease in damage, but they should feel more consistent now."

Two other characters also see balance tweaks. The healing boost from Ana's Biotic Grenade is now 50 percent less effective, and Sombra's Hack now takes only 0.8 seconds to complete (down from 1 second).

I'm not a fan of the 3-4 tank meta and I'm pretty happy with the changes.

I think the change to Ana's grenade is significant as it reduces her ability to keep someone alive and deal such high burst healing. That combined with the Roadhog & Dva nerfs I think (hope) will put an end to the 3-4 tank meta for most situations.

I'm sad to see the Ana grenade nerf, but I can see why it's needed. She's a super powerful enabler (and sadly my best character in comp).

I play Soldier, Lucio, Mercy a bit of Mei, some Reinhardt.

I do play Symmetra though. Usually on defence and I will announce 'guys, let me know if you prefer something else, but I feel Symmetra will work here' and no-one has ever disagreed with me.

Shortly after I ask, 'What do you prefer? I lean towards the Shield Gen, but happy to go with teleport if you prefer'.
