Would the length of an Ethernet Cable effect/Determine how fast pages /games and so on load up on a PC or is that down to the CPU and other hardwere ?

I'm asking as my Daughter's PC is in her room upstairs and mine is right next to the Modem and Router both are on Ethernet .

thanks :)

Yeah I expect so, what sort of delays are we talking?

Can you run a speedtest on both and compare the two?

Website load time could be a few things, anti-virus, what DNS you're using, etc.

Might be worth checking the latency to the router as well, ping the router via command prompt and see if you get any packet loss.

GTX 980.
16 GB DDR3 @2400 .
Intel 4670 ( No OC ).
EVGA 750W PSU.

not sure if the Mobo is z87 or 97..I do know it uses the killer network 2200 ? that sound right

It will be caused by many things, HDD speed, CPU speed, RAM or just quirks of the current install of Windows. Perhaps if the speed is significantly lower than another unit of similar spec, a clean install of Windows may be needed.

there is a 100m maximum size for a ethernet cable, or if your using a splitter cable it's 50m per segment.
if you exceed that, the sync signal which must be within 26micra second , will cause the back off / collision detection algorythm to kick in and it drops off the network.
apart from that there is no limitations.

hope that helps explain.

It is for cat5e STP, cat6 I believe is better, but that relies on the device at each end being capable of utilizing it.

But for domestic applications, cat5e STP is what you want fot long cable runs, as in 50m plus

killer network has 2 drivers, full fat that's suppose to work magic on network connections (some have reported it causes problems), or just the basic driver.
Try the basic no frills if not using already.
