Almost hit a cyclist

You do realise that public roads are paid for though general taxation and local roads are via council tax? Or are you one of those deluded morons that thinks you pay "road tax" which goes to the up keep of the roads?

I don't disagree with the premise of your post otherwise. If people do dangerous and selfish things and they get hurt or killed then it's their own stupid fault. The unfortunate thing is someone will have to live with that.

Yes I am aware 'road tax' is a complete joke but as far as I'm concerned a bicycle is a road user in the same capacity as a car, it's a vehicle. Pedestrians are not because they shouldn't be 'using' the road in the same way to travel from A to B.

I just feel it's a shame there's a reasonable proportion of cyclists who ruin their reputation for everyone else. I'm not a cyclist myself but many of my friends and family go out on the roads most weekends for long rides and I'd like to think they're more sensible than what I witness in London on a daily basis walking to work. Even during my last petrolhead meet at the Evo triangle we passed cyclists who displayed correct road etiquette and seemed sensible so maybe it's a London thing!

My post was somewhat aggressive as the said incident only happened last week and it left me pretty angry and upset.

Your signature made me laugh I have to admit!

After 1st April they will have to pay £310 a year for the first 5 years if they cost more than 40k (which is most descent EVs). Then it drops to 0, for now.

But the point still stands, you don't have to pay the tax if you keep your car off public roads. Therefore it's road tax :D

Not for much longer.

0 emission cars will have to pay tax, so cycles should too :P

As vehicle tax is charged on emissions and bicycles don't have emissions then it is exempt from any tax. If then the tax is changed so zero emission vehicles get charged, then it's only fair that the vehicles pay due to the damage they do to the roads and as roads generally damage bicycles instead of the other way round, drivers should pay cyclists money ;):D

Did you catch the GCN video where they found a cyclist (especially if they eat asparagus) emits more emissions than a BMW i3? :D

Though it would cost a lot of emissions to build a BMW i3.

So you're saying that even after 1st April a BMW i3 or Prius will pay the same 'road tax' as a bike would. Seems fair to me.

I already pay 'Road Tax' on two cars but if a 'Road tax' is introduced for 0 emission vehicles then I will pay it however it will probably be very low. My work colleague has got some type of hybrid and pays £20 a year so a cyclist will probably be around £3 - I'm happy with that.
I'm quite surprised I've never seen motorists kick off about how much they pay compared to other motorists depending on what car they drive. If it was a 'Road Tax' we would all be paying the same amount.

Haha but what if the BMW driver eats asparagus? :D

No. The i3 won't pay any. The Prius will. He just made up his statement then added the clause of 'in the future'.

And the electricity that goes into the i3 would produce emissions, unless you've got your own sustainable energy system at home.

I'll bite! I pay £500 'Road Tax' and I use the roads with that car far less than most drivers do in a year so while emissions is higher overall I emitted less than some economical car drivers! 2500 miles last year in the car and 8000 on my bicycle. Ridiculous!!!!!!!
