Looked like good awareness to me. As soon as they came into view you stopped. Nothing wrong with that.

Only because they want to encourage more people to buy them. Once they become popular you can guarantee they will slap tax on them.

It isn't just 10 seconds is it.

If you are "Tail end Charlie" in a rolling roadblock of a dozen or more vehicles, it can easily end up being several minutes if overtaking opertunities are limited on a busy road.

That is why some drivers get mad.

I don't believe it either, it's far more likely that they were riding on the pavement and then moved out onto the wrong side of the road due to the van, just as the OP explained. The fact that the OP saw them them move back onto the pavement after the junction adds more credibility to this.

Why don't they get so mad when it's a stationary queue of traffic because there are too many cars on the road?

Almost hit a car.
I have gone round that corner every working day for the last 4 years and never seen anything coming the other way.
If I'd been a bit slower or him a bit faster it could have been nasty.
I did put my hand up and say sorry.

I think I may have saw one of the cyclists again last week, he was on the correct side of the road, then crossed onto the wrong side before pulling across my street and up the dropped curb, a similar line to how they cane in the video. Though I'm not sure, seen people cycling on the pavement plenty of times before.
