How does my wicking look on this, too much, too little, just right? This is the last wick I'd done a year ago on this RDA and I've just put it under water to clean off old juice., hence the moist looking cotton.

Also, looks like I'll have to order new batteries. Not sure why but one of my 18650s which has no power is just continually flashing all 3 lights on my nitecore i2 and isn't charging. Physical condition looks fine though. Hasn't been used in a year, it's just been sitting in the i2 and was fine when last in use. I've binned it now.

My other battery I've just removed from my mod and after a year amazingly still has a bit of charge left. It's charging fine.

What 18650 batteries are currently recommended, guys? Mine are from 2014, sony 18650 VTC5 IMR 30A 2600mAh 3.7v Li-Mn.

Change your wicking, make sure the coils are firing evenly from the inside out, you can't just wash cotton

If its been sat for over a year the odds are the cell has discharged its self beyond the point of no return, it happens. If you've binned it make sure to insulate it and dispose of it correctly, supermarkets have battery disposal bins, if its not insulated (I wrap mine in electrical tape), despite being dead, it may still have potential to short/start a fire.

As for batteries, popular choices are:

Sony VTC6
LG HG2
Samsung 30Q

All 3 are more or less the same in terms of performance, though you may find the 30Q's the cheapest to come by

Oh yeah, I wouldn't reuse cotton. I'd already whipped it out, it was only to show you my last wicking. Actually, I won't bother with the RDA for now and I've just cleaned out, rewicked and filled my TFV4.

Thanks for the info, I didn't realise that if they discharge completely they become non chargeable. I'm going to the rubbish tip tomorrow so I'll take it out of the bin and dispose of it there.

Is this one good? Or do I need to go for Torchy batteries again?

Yeah, it says on the data sheets, lipo's do the same, think its something like 2.3v and they're done! If the cell was already at 3v or so when you'd last used it, its entirely possible over the course of a year its drained that extra, especially if it was a well used battery.

Torchys' fine, people recommend him as they know his cells are legit, important, especially in the wonderful world of ebay. alternatively try fogstar: https://www.fogstar.co.uk/

£4.85 each on 30Q's when buying 2! They send all batteries in the hard plastic cases, and also throw in spare wraps and insulators, very good service

VTC5 tested out iirc around 22A CDR, the 30Q is under-rated by samsung, iirc it has a CDR around 19-20A, will pulse fine at 30A.

Look at Moochs' battery testing for 'real' battery ratings

How manufacturers rate their batteries is a very grey area, so we rely on people like Mooch to do the real testing for us.

Actually, just spotted on the vaporware listing for the same samsung 30Q, it shows that there is a CDR and BDR, respectively 15A and 30A.

So i just got my first RTA, after a year of vaping i decided i needed to up my game a bit, but im not having a good time.

I think i did ok, but it doesnt vape that well, not sure what im doing, i have it at 30 watts, and its a bit flavourless, if i up it to 35 its better, but i get dry hits

I broke the tank down and checked things and rewicked, this is waht the coil looks like

Well your pics don't work for a start so can't see your coil or wicking.

As above, Can't see pics, but serpents you usually have to just rest the wicking above the channel rather then stuff it in. Typically a 2.5mm ID is about the minimum n a serpent, it's a big ol' deck.

Augvape Merlin is lovely little tank. Excellent flavor and configurable for MTL or DTL with the little airflow insert. I have 2 of them and rate them very highly. Dual-post, single-coil design makes them dead easy to build on.
Another option from my experience is the Digiflavor Fuji GTA for DTL or the Siren GTA for MTL. Both are excellent. The Fuji can be bought with either the single-coil or dual-coil deck. It's a 25mm tank though so if your mod is small it might look janky.

You get some little plastic blockers which close the air holes and juice holes so nothing spills out.

Same with the ijoy combo rdta, I have one and run a dual coil but it also has a plastic blocker if you just want to run a single coil build.

Great tank and easy to build on as well.
