guys my company provides me with a company car but does not pay a penny towards business mileage and I do a lot! Is there anything I can do about getting my fuel expenses back?

So can I not claim anything?

You are normally entitled to claim reasonable expenses incurred when on company business. What did your contract say?

It's unusual for them not to pay fuel, provide a fuel card or to offer a salary enhancement to offset. Of course they may claim they do this in your package.

You can claim tax relief on mileage though at the end of each year

As above i've never known anyone not be paid mileage for fuel when travelling on business.

What has your company said about it?

I do about 18,000 miles a year and use my own car. I can claim 45p per mile for business mileage but I have to pay for wear and tear, servicing etc myself.

I assume with a company car they pay for all that, so whose got the better deal?

They're only advisory but you should, if they're normal, be being offered 9-13p per mile depending on your car.

This is the correct answer.

Claim the corresponding mileage rate back from your company. If your company policy is that you pay your own mileage (rare, but it happens), then you can claim the mileage allowance as a business expense and get the tax back from HMRC.

With a company care they pay for all that and the reclaimed mileage rate is much lower 9p-13p depending on fuel type/engine size.

The 45p is towards wear and tear etc. SO really you're getting 30ppm towards wear and tear.

So how do i go about claiming it back? Is there a form I need to fill in or someone in particular I should be asking? Cheers

Suggest you speak with Dave R in accounts and he will have forms for you......

Or, as it's the company you work for, ask someone who you work with who you know there.
