Torment: Tides of Numenera Kickstarter

Past $4m now on the kickstarter page which, I think, makes Torment: Tides of Numa Numa the most funded of the kickstarted games yet. Only 2 hours left now as well.

Well, it's done and funded. They finished somewhere around the $4.3m mark which means all but the final stretch goal was achieved. They are however leaving the paypal funding open for the time-being and will count all pledges through paypal towards the $4.5m stretch goal until the end of April.

And now the long wait ...

One thing's for sure - we won't be short of isometric rpgs in 2 or 3 years time! And it's about time!

Brian Fargo just announced the other day that they'll be going ahead with all the stretch goals even though the paypal amount didn't quite allow the totals to hit the $4m mark. Apparently there were less failed pledges than anticipated so the leftover of the reserve $200,000 has been counted towards the final tally.

Well, its out soon/now!

i LOVE the styling so far. Its got me written all over it, mystical & technological rolled into one. With a healthy dose of surreal.

hrmm i havent played the beta only seen some gameplay videos....so dont get triggered :p

I have no doubt it will have a ton of depth but looking at this and looking at its contemporaries i.e. Divinity Original Sin and Pillars of Eternity and Tyranny.... tbh Torment looks garbage in comparison. It raised $4 million... and it looks like they couldnt get a proper games artist/animator to be perfectly honest. Also very very text heavy.... I'm playing the enhanced edition of Divinity Original Sin atm and its completely voiced and graphics look splendid indeed.

Sorry but Torment graphics look very very bad in comparision. Divinity raised $900,000 via kickstarter and Torment raised $4 million... where have they spend all the 4 million dollars in this game? Can someone answer me that?

The lack of voice acting is disappointing in 2017. It is very text-heavy. On the other hand, they made Wasteland 2, which imo is superior all the games you mentioned, so I am confident it will be excellent.

Hmmm i dont know about any the politics, i'm just going with pure face value & enjoying it so far. The writing has been great, I actually like it for being textual, but I read a lot, its nice to do things at my own pace sometimes.

I can see that being an annoyance for some though

Remember youve got the sequels to both Divinity and Pillars of Eternity as well lol. Wasteland has been on my radar but i heard it wasnt as good as those games but i think its quite cheap these days so i might get it.

I actually like it for being textual, but I read a lot,

I read a lot too, which is why I would prefer not to have to when I'm playing games!

I have been trying to play it today, but I have a stinking cold, and tbh really don't feel like wading through all of the text. I can barely focus on the screen...If there were voice acting I would have no problem and would be greatly enjoying it. It is just so old-fashioned.

IMHO, it is not good enough for 2017. Pillars, Divinity and Wasteland didn't have full VO, but at least had a lot more than this.

I have to say, I love a good Isometric RPG...I've played pretty much all of them over the years, but I am a bit disappointed in the lack of innovation in the new crop of games. Larian is really the only one at least trying new things, and mixing things up a bit. The rest are pretty much just making 20 year old games. These are good studios, and the games are good, but they are too stuck in the past imo.

Played this a little and I'm happy with it so far. Very happy to have a lot to read and not have someone reading it out at about a quarter of my reading speed. Voice acting is overrated.

Holy moly it's out!

Anybody who is surprised it's text heavy has missed the point tbh. It's got 'around 1 million words', 25% more than the bible. Doing all the voice acting, in EVERY language? Utterly impossible. It's old school and proud of it.

Edit: OK not impossible, but over twice as many words as the Witcher III, which had a famously large amount of voice acting (450k words, about 35 hours). That took 2 years to record. Doing the same for Torment: Tides would probably add another couple of years on to development.

Looking forward to installing but probably won't get around to it for a while. :(
