What watch do you wear?

I'm a rubbish haggler mate, I just paid whatever the price was on the ticket (£2850)

business wise my customer is livenation (and Unilever in the Wirral) so I'm up as often as possible to progress more deals :)

What's the general perception of Tudor watches? Is it a bit 'couldn't afford a Rolex so settled'? I'm not trying to ruffle any feathers just genuinely curious. As they look almost identical. I believe made by Rolex too but a fraction of the price (although still not 'cheap'). Or is it a respected brand in itself?

Yes.

Though unfair as they are great watches. I think some have movements from other makers such as ETA etc

Looking to spend anywhere around £300-500 on a nice new watch. What are peoples opinions on the following two from Seiko and Steinhart?

Ocean 1 Black - http://www.chronomaster.co.uk/stein...tches/steinhart-ocean-1-black/t0204+-+sth-16/

Seiko Watch Prosper (Tuna?) - https://www.jurawatches.co.uk/collections/seiko-watches/products/seiko-watch-prospex-srp775k1

Would we say one of these is better than the other, and should I be looking at anything else in this sort of price range would you suggest?

I'd say Seiko over Steinhart - the Steiny is just a copy of the Submariner, whereas the Seiko has its own styling and therefore isn't trying to be something it isn't.

I'd go with the Seiko turtle, the tuna is a different beast, but I'm biased as I have the padi version. Also not a fan of subs.

I wouldn't pay juras price though. Creation watches have the same model for £185 when you use their discount code (turtle). Even if it is a grey import I don't think the two year warranty is worth an extra £190odd.

Yeah I do quite like the styling of the Seiko but equally like the submariner style also. Styling aside is there actually that much difference between the two in terms of build etc.....?

Steinhart - but i'd go for the vintage

Yes they do look nice but I think of Ocean and Vintage prefer the Ocean for the submariner look.

Aye yes, sorry I meant turtle. Whats the difference between the non padi and padi version? Agree much cheaper on creation!

Only reason I was on Jura is I was looking at the limited edition turtle and samurai blue lagoon. I missed out on both sadly, always really liked the Samurai but they seem super hard to get hold of or find.

Are there any other watches in this price range I should be considering aside these two?

The padi has a blue sunburst dial and Pepsi bezel as well as a red minute hand, besides that no difference. I chose it over the black and gold because I really liked the dial. It's a nice watch, but part of me wishes Seiko upgraded the skx007 with a better bracelet and movement instead of reissuing the turtle.

There's a blue lagoon samurai in the window of a camera shop near me, looks nice enough but I personally wouldn't part with £400 for one. If I was going to part with that much I'd pick up a sumo instead, although I bet the blue lagoon will be worth more in the future.

List prices are a bit far fetched....

Who pays 400+ euro for a seiko? Nobody. It's like asking is anyone bought a sofa from DFS that wasn't on sell. The sell price is the real price. The other price is for suckers that don't research before they buy.

Seiko are a top brand - Their 'Grand' range is regarded up there in the luxury watch industry and probably have the most accurate mechanical movements out there.

4 figure watches are far from being considered 'luxury in the higher earner brackets. They're watches aimed at you, the middle earners, to make you feel 'special'.

I'd choose the Steinhart but with the ceramic bezel option.

Okay.....
Seriously, stop patronising me - I understand the play as well as you do :)

My point was - there are many people who pay upwards of 400 Euro for a Seiko. What you posted above ('nobody') was utter rubbish.

New Everest leather strap for my GMT IIc arrived from the states. Less worrying about scratches on the original bracelet now :D

Only fools pay such amounts for a Seiko. Bon?
An interesting point of view - Do you care to share why you think this is the case?

The 'luxury' term is relative. Some people view the BMW 5/7 Series as a luxury car, whilst other people may not share the same view. However, the industry still classes the cars in the luxury segement.
Grand Seiko watches are luxury category - regardless of the size of your wallet.
