So this isn't intended to be a sexist post, nor is it one of those "I don't mean to offend you... Buuuut.." posts.

Does anybody here that is a regular flyer feel indifferent or less confident with a female pilot behind the controls? I haven't given it much thought before but i learn towards "less confident" subconsciously, probably due to an underlying stigma but not an active thought..

The thought stemmed from this crazy ass pilot in America.. Would you stay on the plane after this horror show?

I sat shotgun during a flight in NZ on a 6 seater plane with a female pilot, I didn't feel any different than I would have with a male pilot except for her being kinda hot

This is a serious question??? No. I don't.

People cover a huge range of ability, responsibility, integrity. The world is filled with everyone from idiots to geniuses, people who would give their life to save someone they barely knew and people who would run out on their own families. I'm pretty sure the dividing line between whether someone should be flying a plane or not isn't which sex they happen to be.

Anyone who has made the grade as a commercial pilot has my respect, regardless of who or what they are. I can't imagine my skill and integrity being the only thing (potentially) between a plane full of people and a crash.

I was on a flight with a female pilot. When we landed everybody clapped.

I said hang on a minute, She's not parked it yet

I'll get me coat

I don't care what genitals they are sporting as long as they can do the job. The female pilot in the above video is obviously having some sort of emotional or mental breakdown, so I wouldn't want her flying my plane, but then a male pilot suffering the same issues would see me off the plane in a shot.

I feel indifferent about a person's sex outside of a sexual context. If I'm not having sex with them and the situation doesn't involve any medical matters in which sex has any relevance and I'm not forced by law or social norms to treat people differently because of their sex, why would I care what their sex is? It's about as relevant as the colour of their eyebrows.

Well, problem is you haven't researched on crazy men pilots, maybe you wont find anything but I would assume you would, what about the sad case of the guy who crashed the plane in Germany, that was tragic and extreme however I'm sure you will find some crazy mouthy pilots. Maybe not though. I think I would rather a man in an emergency, however they do have a co pilot and and third pilot(I think). Guy from Uni has been second pilot with BA for years and he likes a party and drink when ever he can, not exactly mr sensible of the year at times.

I don't care either way, it's one thing that annoys me about all this "get more women on the PM's team etc", it's total ****! It should be "the best person for the job!"

As for the video, I'd have gotten off because she's in a bad place and should not be responsible for flying that aircraft at that time, to the point I'd have been tempted to phone the airport/security/airline and making them aware of the issue.

Everyone goes through the same training - doesn't matter if you're male, female, 18 or 40. If they weren't competent and didn't pass all the exams and practicals to the required standard then they wouldn't be a pilot in the first place. The medical is fairly comprehensive as well.

One of the guys who went through my flying school is a pilot for EasyJet at just 22 and one of the instructors now flies for Eastern at 35. Do you feel uneasy with a younger pilot at the helm? One of my instructors is female and doesn't phase me.

As i did mention in my initial post, i don't actively think that a woman is less suited for the job.. There is maybe a subconscious sexism that is drawn through many years of dealing with women crashing in to my car?

I also have a friend similar age to yours flying Boeing planes for Ryanair, honestly though? Na wouldn't trust him.. he used to be a bad drunk.
