Shots fired outside parliament - Please refrain from speculative and antagonistic posts

They don't want you just to be afraid of getting on a plane, train, tube, bus etc....they want you to be afraid wherever you are....they want to ruin our lives by injecting fear of both the random and organised attack. Uncertainty and instability are their goals. The war on terrorism is being won by radical islamists, not because of their military might, but because we're the ones who are terrified.

Gonna need a bit more than that to truly terrify most Londoners - i.e. the response after 7/7 most got straight back on with it determined not to be scared by it.

Am I the only one who just assumed the bridge would have railings or something to stop just such an attack after the recent incidents in Europe...
No not at all. Rather surprised it didn't if I'm honest.

Never been there so assumed it was a car/pedestrian bridge :(.

From what I can gather, there was no intel around this attack at all, no chatter, nothing. Seems like it may have been just a disgruntled sympathiser or something else

But where does it end? Stick bollards on the bridges, they just find another target. Hell drive round the middle of london long enough until you come to a set of lights on red with people crossing, youve got 50 targets in a small group. The whole idea of this type of attack is there isn't an effective way to counter it.

As others have already pointed out, the substantial amount of CCTV in the area is going to give a very clear picture of how the entire incident unfolded, probably more so than if it had happened anywhere else.

The key usage of CCTV though is going to be tracing back all the other footage and ANPR hits on his vehicle leading up to him arriving at the bridge. I know people often talk about a "Nanny state" but it is one advantage we have in this country that we have so much coverage. I'd like to think that the Police are already making moves on the residence of the attacker and anyone who might be connected with him.

From incident on the bridge to suspect being detained was less than 5 minutes apparently. Ambulances were on the scene less than a minute after that.

Apparently our CCTV and preparation are being called into question?

WUT?

Why? Did he have big collection of child porn?

Only the thing the police in this country are bothered with ( big budget - according to most media reports)

Nope. But it makes you wonder how good certain people are at what they're paid to do.
Seriously. Show us one security expert from anywhere in the world that concurs with your view.

Otherwise accept that you've overestimated your ability to gauge the matter.

Care to share the last time someone mounted the pavement and mowed down the crowds walking along there?

Round corner to me car mounted pavement outside a school. Think one died and a quite a few kids injured. Old man had a heart attack at the wheel.

These things occasionally happen, instantly jumping to terrorist act is knee jerk.

Yet still.. This was all over in 5 minutes with the first incident most probably not being considered a terrorist attack at the time.

Been incidents in Bath and Glasgow, etc. of pedestrians mowed down - didn't immediately hit the national headlines as a terrorist attack, before facts were known, in either case that I recall.
