Shots fired outside parliament - Please refrain from speculative and antagonistic posts

INCIDENT on bridge. Be Aware. 30 seconds later - LOCKDOWN - Terrorist attack. Draws weapon. Prepares for further eventuality.

This type of attack by its very nature is nearly impossible to stop casualties, there's no warning, no counter-intelligence that really can pick up on dodgy things etc and it happens very quickly.

The fact that he "only" got over the bridge, crashed and just inside the grounds shows how quick the response was and it should be applauded.

I find your implied suggestion there was a failing of the police response frankly abhorrent.

Does that happen every time a car does something... unexpected on Westminster bridge, or do you wait until at least, say, 5 pedestrians are down?

Guarding the House of Parliament?

Quite a few I would hope.

Nope. The security budget means more cameras but less operators. It's cheaper to have cameras rolling 24/7 than it is to employ one person, per screen, per camera on a 24/7 rota just incase.

That's common sense surely.

Bang on. I think our emergency services did a fantastic job. Boge watches too many films.

shocked he actually got into the grounds of houses of parliament
I'm not sure if/what the correct term for it is, but security there is like layers of onion skin. He got through the first layer and was stopped. It looks like it's relatively easy to get past the fence, but you'll be very visible/exposed. Once you go on from there there's more security - you get funnelled down to a metal detector hoop, and there's a lot of security personnel.

Those that are questioning the intelligence of someone attacking such a secure area armed with just a motor vehicle and mission from whomever, should be aware that this is the very strategy of ISIS and other Islamic terror organisations.

They don't want you just to be afraid of getting on a plane, train, tube, bus etc....they want you to be afraid wherever you are....they want to ruin our lives by injecting fear of both the random and organised attack. Uncertainty and instability are their goals. The war on terrorism is being won by radical islamists, not because of their military might, but because we're the ones who are terrified.

Just as the IRA did in the 1980`s with rubbish bin bombs in railway stations - you know ordered by Martin Mcguiness

The majority of people aren't remotely terrified. The war on terrorism isn't being won by a bunch of scrotes, neither will it.

It was more the sheer number of response vehicles that surprised me from all services. It could have been much worse, but that is no comfort for the families affected.

Thankfully St. Thomas hospital is opposite Parliament on the south bank of the river, staff apparently came out to help victims on the bridge.

Care to share the last time someone mounted the pavement and mowed down the crowds walking along there?
Do you ever wonder why no security expert is saying anything like what you're saying?

I asked you what happens from the moment the car first strikes a pedestrian, and you said it is immediately flagged as an incident. What's to distinguish that from just a plain old car accident? How many pedestrians have to be hit before you fire up the snipers?

You know, the snipers you've got in St Stephen's tower 24/7, right? Right?

I'm curious what sort of process you have in mind here.

But we're not are we?

Am I the only one who just assumed the bridge would have railings or something to stop just such an attack after the recent incidents in Europe...
