Shots fired outside parliament - Please refrain from speculative and antagonistic posts

It's a shame when people bring this thread to their level by name calling. Back on topic.

I see the police have arrested people in connection with the London terror attack in Birmingham. Why am I not surprised.

Beaten to it

You were so far off the mark, I would say he was right.

Just read that the attacker has been named on twitter, born and bred in Hackney is quoted, along with a line about he had a previous terror related conviction and had been known for 10 years.
Not giving any credibility to any of this but if this proves to be the case, I hope some top brass, who may have been in the loop, feel very awkward right now and are rightly asked some very difficult questions.....although the old line will no doubt be rolled out, the one including "lessons being learned" etc.

But what do you suggest? Lock up all people possible of doing something, someday? There are many, many people "known" to our security services. They don't have mind control, they can't prevent every person on their list from doing something.

Nazi sympathisers were interred during the war, so during this war why can we not do the same, along with deportation where appropriate? I see Australia has rejected hundreds of Syrian "refugees" after they failed security vetting. We need to up the game tenfold. Oh, wait, human rights, ECHJ, Liberal wailing, right to a family life, blah blah.

I think it's been proven the 'Hackney guy' who some papers named was actually in jail yesterday when this happened, I too jumped the gun when the independent named him, but then they retracted the story.

I doubt we just wave them in if they failed security vetting.

Human rights are for everyone if we can just ignore them when we feel fit then they're pointless to have. How do you propose we "up the game tenfold"?

I enjoy living in the countryside with zero chance of being caught up in anything like this. While I know the chances are minute, the thought of having to go to London next month and stand around in huge crowds of people for the marathon is off putting

I work in a part of London likely to be a target at some point. I travel through one of the busiest stations and on trains and tubes that are likely to be targeted one day. I will be more vigilant but it won't stop me doing that and I won't worry about something I can't control. I used to travel and work in London during the IRA campaign too so it's no different to that.

If I get caught up in it one day then so be it. But I won't worry about it in advance. Doing that just let's them win.

I harbour the same fear everytime I go to London but I just have to man up and not let the terrorists win :)

You've actually read the whole thing he said?

If you have and don't realise where you went wrong, then I'm afraid you're probably not intelligent enough to be getting involved in this thread.

Deuse has proven this many, many times over. I don't know why we're still indulging him.

Anyway. I work right between Bank and Moorgate. The bank of england is just across the road. As Hades said, just crack on and get on with life.

After terror incidents like this i do wonder how easy it would be for a terrorist(s) to go to a small village in the sticks and cause utter chaos.

There wouldn't be any point. London is very resilient at shaking off these things though.
Probably almost business as usual by the end of the day.

Indeed. I happen to be working from home today but I am off into London tonight for a drink. Beer is much more important than worrying about getting caught up in anything :)

Certainly was here. When I left my building yesterday I noticed that security had shut down three of the four doors and the safety was taken off the "emergency button" ( a button which security have which instantly grounds all lifts, locks the stairwells and calls the cops). On the tube I was amazed to hear nothing at all, except the standard "signal failure" message. It was almost as if nothing happened at all.
