Do you think you are intelligent?

Personally I consider myself to be of average intelligence or perhaps the upper end of average intelligence. I did an IQ test once (yes I know IQ tests aren't a great way to measure intelligence) and scored 117 which I was quite pleased with. I know I'm not stupid because I managed to teach myself computer programming without any teachers on my own before the days of YouTube and easy to find online tutorials. But I certainly wouldn't class myself as massively intelligent. I also went to university to study computer science and creative writing.

So do you think you are intelligent? I'm particularly interested to know if there are any people on this forum who think they are geniuses.

If you read Quora just about everyone there claims to be a genius with 150+ IQ but given the fact that Quora is a cesspit of idiocy I find it hard to believe.

Intelligence and esp intelligence tests does not mean you have common sense or don't have other issues.

Look at me, I consider myself pretty intelligent definitely in the top half of the country, maybe the top 25%. O levels, A levels, degree. But my English always lets me down. Maths I have always shone at and hence good at logical stuff which also means I score high on standard intelligence tests. But trying to get my point across and explain things I struggle with.

But I always remember my teacher at school given us two types of tests - one the logical one which I did well on and the other was more along the lines of "in one minute give 50 alternative uses for a paperclip". The people who did worse on the logical, mathematical test did really well on the other test and vica versa although there were some people who excelled at both.

Suppose that's the issue with intelligence. How do you measure it and define it???????

When I was at school they gave a dozen or so of us who were in all of the top sets an IQ test and it showed that I was very high in Maths and above average in most other areas. Also in the Maths test that decided what set we'd get put in for our GSCE's I got the highest grade in the year group out of 300 kids, 98/100. I'm quite good at logical problem solving but I generally don't enjoy studying academically and didn't stay past A levels in college for that reason. I think I'd do well studying a subject I'm actually interested in and learning in a way that isn't reading text books and sitting in a class room for hours on end.

I have done several proper IQ tests and my average score was 122. I think that's fairly high but the tests don't take into account a great many things that others would consider marks of intelligence.

Nope, id say below average if im being honest. My mental arithmatic is very very bad.

But I can hold my own in most day to day situations; in regards to reasoning and articulation.

I used to think average, but as I've got older and have realised more and more just how utterly stupid most people are I'd say I'm a borderline genius :p

You don't have to be intelligent. You just have to be less stupid than those around you.

Which is why I love GD of course :D

Academically no - I don't consider myself particularly shrewd/smart either - however I do have an active mind, try to keep an open mind and actively try to better my understanding of things which a lot of people do not seem to do. Also I seem to be able to deal with broad and diverse subjects where there is a commonality running through them which a lot of people seem to struggle with.

I think what helps is that I'm cognisant of the limits of my intelligence, for the most part, and where it isn't as good as it could be.
