I know your pain OP, some times I hit, others I miss.

Take this one for example. A few colleagues were talking about another colleague who wasn't present. Although mostly derogatory one of them said "ah, but he's got a good heart", to which I replied right on the button, "I hope he carries a donor card". Some of the folk there almost choked on their pint while others thought I meant all he was good was breakers yard for the ill.

I am the least funny person out there but I do consider myself to have a decent sense of humour I just get too nervous to express jokes in public.

Making sexual connotations out of innocuous events is a lower form of wit than sarcasm, imo.
You'll get a rise in certain locales, but it's pretty neanderthal.

While I don't laugh out loud at Michael McIntyre, I have absolute respect for his ability to make polite, almost universal, jokes out of the same innocuous events.

No I'm not funny but I'm a great back seat driver.

Yep, very. But its mostly situational one-liners rather then cracking jokes with punchlines and telling stories. Fortunately I have a very inappropriate bunch of friends who all have a similar sense of humour.

I've always been known as the funny one in the group much to the point where i felt like the sad clown. Fun exterior but dying on the inside lol.

It does drive me a bit mad. I tend to try to make fun out of every situation good or bad, and have regretted my choices a long time down the line. Not to say inappropriate humour, I'm not that stupid. I do know when to draw the line.

Anyway, what i hate is try hard funny people, it's a gift you have it or you don't. Trying is failing.

OP was funny at school. They could have just sniggered or given it a quick, "Ooo err, missus", but actually crafted an intelligent layer of credible context above the innuendo. Imo it was even funnier because OP said it in front of a hostile audience, Frankie Boyle style.

I think I'm really funny but I really am not. My jokes tend to be too simple or too elaborate. I find it hard to hit the sweet spot.

I think you might just have won 'funniest guy'!

Me and my mates played Quiplash the other day and I won 5 rounds in a row.

Pretty sure that makes me the most hilarious person ever.

'Being funny' is pretty much what I rely on for EVERYTHING.

I have terrible social anxiety and get ridiculously embarrassed at every little thing (god help me if there's a pretty girl around). The way I learnt to mask it from late teenage years onwards was to adopt the 'Robin Williams approach'. Go all out, try to be funny in every conceivable way. Make your embarrassed red face seem more because of comedic effort then because the blonde stranger in the corner just looked at you.

I'd say it was more annoying then anything, but I have more friends now then I've ever had and my lady friend is a bloody stunner wayyyyyyyy out of my league, so it must work on some level xD

Do I think I'm actually funny though? Nahhh. I'm certainly quick witted as a result of my anxiety keeping me' noggin active, and I'll be ultra physical whenever I can but as OP said, it's about knowing your audience and not everybody appreciates quips and slapstick style stuff.

My ex considered herself hilarious, but in reality she was just plain rude. Bullying / put downs does not equal humor! Not aimed at me per se, just her general thoughts on what was funny.
