I'm not comparing across generations at all. Compare an m5 vs an m140i for example around a track.A car with a designated 'M' number. Not M Sport trim or M tech add ons.
You're comparing across generations again. An 'M' car isn't an 'M' car just because of it's performance.
I get the appeal of having a sporty looking M Sport BMW. But it's not an 'M' car.

To be fair you can get 'msport/amg' package on diesels direct from the manufacturer now. I do agree it's stupid though.

That makes me laugh at them because they've sacrificed torque to make it "more sporty" heheheBog standard every day cars with massively loud aftermarket exhausts.
Stupidly loud exhausts are annoying full stop but when it's on a 1.0L Corsa it just winds me up a bit more.
