A war with NK would be over in less than a week.

The only thing they have is about 40 Mig-29s from the 80s in suspect condition.
Other than that some late sixties fighters, F7s! which would be obliterated by something like a F22 from miles away (if they are airworthy in the first place)

They are yet to prove they are actually capable of making a missile of any real threat, particularly one that can successfully work at range so actually i think this is the best time...

Also i think its most important to realise that the moment the disillusioned in the army realise they are living in 1960 and up against technology that probably seems alien, then they will all give up and we can expect a coup of some sort.

NK have paraded a new never seen before type of Topol looking ICBM, possibly solid fuel. Whether there is actually anything inside the canister and are not just some barrels welded together is anyone's guess.

NK have paraded dummy stuff before but have gone into building and testing. The below have never been launched as they're the sort of thing that could easily reach the US

Those are nothing but a bunch of tarted up Wanshan WS-51200s that the DPRoK got off of China for hauling lumber about with some balsa/papier mache launch tubes stuck on top.

Trump is a maniac. Kim is a maniac. When two maniacs butt heads, literally anything can happen.

When Trump got elected, they said 'dont worry', that the president's not actually that powerful, that there'd be mechanisms to prevent him going off all gung-ho and playing war games, but this appears not to be the case.

What I don't understand was Obama's strategy and why he seemingly did very little about NK. Was he content to let them become a nuclear state, or did he have plans to kick something off too?

You are thinking too much in western terms - while not every NK citizen is totally brain washed they won't just become disillusioned and roll over like Iraq, etc. while they would get slaughtered on the offence they will take a lot longer to subdue if they stand and fight defensively.

NK invited a bunch of foreign journalists into the country to report on the new street opening and the parade today.

Basically Kim's attempt at click bait for everyone to look at his toys.

Am i right in thinking they have an 8m standing army and about 5000 artillery pieces all pointed at south Korea??
If anything kicks off say good bye to south Korea.

You can have all the technology in the world vegan army not 8m, you will be overwhelmed. Some Korea has a lot to lose here.
