NK vs USA

The US are warmongering idiots.

Poke even a placid animal with a big stick enough times and it will eventually attack you, let alone the rabid crazy nut job that is Jim Kim Jong-un.

Best solution is either ignore until it eventually gets bored and goes away, or find a more sophisticated solution that doesn't involve shouting at each other and threatening/actually pressing the big red button.

so they're actively threatening other countries in the region + the US while developing nukes and letting their people starve partly as a result of the ridiculously disproportionate amount of GDP they need to spend on their military and the US are the warmongers?

Is NK actually, seriously, a credible threat?

Depends - a small chance they could utilise chemical, biological or dirty radioactive devices via more manual delivery.

The chance of them both developing a working long range missile and get it past counter measures is a very long shot.

On the offensive they would not last very long at all but people tend to underestimate their defence capabilities - their whole culture is built around military first, the terrain heavily favours the defenders, etc.

I never said it's paradise. But just because we don't agree with how they do things doesn't mean we need to get involved. That's the issue, if the US don't like something they bully their way around until they get their own way and it's pathetic. It's the reason ISIS exist, for example.

NK won't attack anyone, they know it would be suicide. They want nukes etc so they can finally stand up and say hey look at us, you better listen to us now for once.

Those who believe that China will let US take down NK, should consider that China doesn't want US troops next to it's borders at all cost.
Also there is a strong opposition on both sides at the South China Sea that would lead to war.

As Russia doesn't like US/NATO troops near it's borders hence the split of Ukraine. We were lucky that a drunkard (Yelchin) was in charge over Russia when we expanded NATO to the Russian borders, par Ukraine. If someone with stronger will was in charge, we wouldn't be standing right now here all of us.

NK could quite easily attack someone

Would you change your views if they 'reacted' to the US shooting down one of their missile launches by launching an attack on South Korea? I mean say they fire a missile towards Japan or somewhere else friendly in the region and it quite rightly gets shot down over international waters?

Have they actually done anything wrong? No, they haven't. They have a right to defend themselves from what they perceive is a threat, which is actually is. All the USA have to do is ignore them, keep their stupid big mouth shut and walk away. End of problem.
Lol yes...how many South Korean sailors have they killed? How many civilians have their artillery barrages killed?

If anyone has ever watched a documentary on North Korea, it's weird what all the defectors say, North Korea wants a war, its crazy

you don't know that, there is potential for it to happen in the next few weeks even

So what would you do? Get paranoid that they might willingly commit suicide and just attack them first anyway?

Striking first guarantees war, waiting for them to strike first (incredibly unlikely) still leads to war but that scenario is very unlikely, thus meaning war is very unlikely.

Which do you choose?

In what sense? In what situation?

I'd be gobsmacked if the US strikes first

depends what you mean - I think shooting down a NK missile would be quite likely on the part of the US and that in itself could well trigger a NK reaction/mobilisation which the US and South Korea will need to react to quite aggressively and immediately

Do you think they should be allowed nukes?
Yes.

We have them. USA have them. Others have them. What gives us the right to tell them they can't?

How many Iraqi's and Afghan's have we killed? Does that justify them deciding to kill us?

because we already have them for a start so we get a bigger say - that's just how the world works, other countries are not supposed to develop nukes and when a country as unstable as NK does then it becomes pretty worrying

That's the thing with treaties, you have to sign them. North Korea abandoned NPT, now in a group of non-sigs (India, Pakistan of great note for their arsenals).

I think we might see some shooting down of missiles but i'd be surprised by anything else.
