Gigabyte Aorus Radeon RX 570 4096MB good choice or not?

Depends. The rx 570 is still a solid card and miles ahead of your GTX 660 in your sig (if thats what you have).

But however, could have had a 480 8gb or 580 4gb for like £30 more which would have been the better choice in my opinion.

yep the 660 is what i have though thanks to nvidia drivers i have a radeon 5550 in it just now i got the creatoers update blackscreen thing and even the supposed hot fix for it didint work so rather than **** away an other two thinds of a day i went with that one to matchi the auros? motherboard i just moved to, i might have gone with the Gigabyte Aorus Radeon RX 580 4096MB but shocker, as has been the running theme on my new build, out of stock

The standard Aorus is a god but in turns of design over the older G1. All components are cooled under the main heatsink unlike say new Strix which uses a mid plate like EVGA etc, but with Aorus there's an extra heat pipe for the Core as well as featuring larger 92mm fans .
XTR version is a bit OTT, and i have Two of them haha , yet to install and crank them up. Personally if it was for me personally would have gone with the standard version for Price wise Retail .
My change my mind after getting the XTR installed but personally with Gigabyte with the extra to get the Aorus 580 over the G1 480

yeah but as i have the aorus motherbeard i want an aorus card so i tihkn its either that wone or jump up a bit, but as i now have to RMA the thing i guess i have more thinking time if i want it

so impulse ordered one and im wondering if i made a bad choice, anyone care to comment?

I think you made a decent choice and your reasoning is sound. Should be a nice upgrade.

Your GPU is ready to support FreeSync too. :)

You have to RMA the GPU ? What was up ?

If you can be swayed to the XTR to blow a load of cash...

Beastly but Standard Aorus 570/80 should be cool enough :) not much different between 92mm to 100mm

it was insta hard reastarting the computer when i tried to install the drivers, spoke to ocuk they said return it, so i am.

i tihnk the xtr is a bit much for me (and its out of stock) but i could be persuaded to go up to the https://www.overclockers.co.uk/giga...ddr5-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-193-gi.html if peeps think it worth the extra £35?

I'd personally go for the 580 but 8GB version. Think AMD out them quite close to get her , specially offering 4GB model on the 580... Seems vendors have scrapped this option for their flagships .

Worth having a look at a few 570 Vs 580 benchmarks regardless of brands to see the difference and hopefully In the games you play

Hopefully OCUK gets RMA sorted quick and Gigabyte Reps do keep a close eye on posts on here :)

well they said just dsr return it and order another, or i guess which ever i want to order but i ithkn the 8gb 580 is overkill so i ithkn ill just stay with the 4gb 570, tbh its prom more power than ill use anyway

Cant fault the logic :)
580 4GB might give a bit better resale value in future but I'm guessing that's not high up on your list .

I normally gamed at nvidia *60 line up and finally went **70 just because i stepped up to 1440p but couldn't justify the amount of gaming to warrant a 1080 . Least i couldn't ditch the 60 cards every year and not lose our a lot but will have to keep the 1070 a bit longer :/

well after the nvidia "creators update" black screen thing that precipitated buying a new gpu in the first place, nvidia can shove things in awkward places. tbh the 660 was easily otherwise good enough for all the gaming i dont do

then 570 will easily cover your needs :D

seems the Aorus is back in stock :D

real really hard to justify he aorus 580 4gb over the 570 as clock speed is only slightly lower and ram speed is the same. Card should also run cooler and draw less power for yourself and still handle 1440p is seems with games you play if as Matt say above, can be swayed over to Freesync 1080p/1440p ;)

think my screens last me odd 8 odd years each

An RX470/570 4GB would be a solid upgrade over a GTX660 2GB - regarding the latter, they were solid cards(I had one),so sorry to hear what happened!

yeah my main monitor is 24 inch 1980x1200 and ive no plans to change it anytime soon (speaker placement means i dont want anything bigger)

well while its annoying, in thet i ****** away an afternoon dicking about on the floor changing cards over and over it happens, and i was just unlucky i guess. though im slightly worried it was a windows / driver issue rather than the card but i guess only way to know is to try another and it was ocuk that said this happens, so just return it.

hopefully RMA will be very quick specially if its in stock :D or OCUK test the card and its non-faulty they normally carry out their checks pretty quick.

does your mobo/cpu have the feature to run a display off them without the need for a a gpu?
if so, might be worth running it to see as well as running DDU (Driver Displayer Uninstaller to clear any Nvidia/AMD drivers hanging around) if you didn't already. some people swear by this when even updating to latest driver. I dont but I do when switching between AMD/Nvidia cards.~
With new builds now I dont install GPU till windows is 100% updated then add it and install the drivers .

At the 4Gb range the 570 is good but, clock speeds are similar the the 580 and whilst it doesn't have the same number of cluster units or shader's it doesn't matter to much since AMD struggles max all the shader's due their draw call limitations in DX11 which is why the 570 is so close to a 580 in a lot of benchmarks.

I know an Asus Strix RX470 8GB will work with a Asus M5a97 EVO R2.0 since my mate just got one,so I would expect an RX470/RX570 should generally be fine,so hopefully its a slightly wonky card.
