In an unusual move, the entire US Senate is being called to the White House for a briefing on North Korea.
...
The briefing, involving 100 senators as well as Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Defence Secretary James Mattis, is being held on Wednesday.
...
Aides, quoted by Reuters, say the House of Representatives is seeking a similar briefing on North Korea.
Pure showboating by the 100 day Drumpf; the senate has secure rooms thus this charade could have been appropriately facilitated in that building.
Reading about the Thaad system the US are deploying.
I don't understand why there are protests about it in South Korea and why China consider it 'destabilising'.
It's purely a defensive system as far as I understand.

If NK were going to attack the south they'd have done it by now, with recent sabre rattling from Trump and everything that's happening it looks like preparations for war.
Not to mention the...you know...invasion. Its amazing how many people seem to think nk are some peaceful loving country.Uhh... they've attacked South korea numerous times, the torp'd frigate and the island artillery.

My personal worry is not the tactics of the fallout zone of a single nuke, if the NK artillery can reach Seoul etc, it's the economic impact. If Trump or NK kick off in a serious fashion the very sudden, very violent loss of life in a developed city like Seoul could completely crash the markets, lead to food and fuel hoarding, runs on the banks etc. We would inadvertently bring about the collapse of our own countries without NK evening getting a single nuke off of a launcher.

The reason being is that the NK leadership aren't rational, they don't care about their own people, they're a complete wild card and as such need they may very well one day strike
They have enough to land hundreds of 170mm shells in Seoul every minute, the people of Seoul would probably notice that...While there are approx. 100,000 South Koreans in range of North Korean artillery only ~3% of it has enough range to hit Seoul and even then not very reliably.

I get you, but you have to think of it from a stock market point of view. If it happens brokers aren't going to be saying 'hmm let's check out the military strategy, looks like we'll win it' they're going to be saying '**** I need to sell all my shares in Samsung'.While there are approx. 100,000 South Koreans in range of North Korean artillery only ~3% of it has enough range to hit Seoul and even then not very reliably.
Seoul is ~30KM from the border, if they wanted to hit the centre of Seoul they could do it from over 20KM inside NK. It's something they have been planning for half a century, they are well equipped to do it and have hundreds of artillery pieces zeroed in.Not to trivialise the threat but a lot of Seoul is realistically out of the range even of their 170mm guns
