**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ Thread ****

OK number has fully ported and on my new sim card :) Saga over.

Vodafone are just too clever :D... NOT! Ha

Speaking with them about speeding up my number porting process to a new plan... as they said it would take 30 days previously to go to PAYG... Told them about you moving to Three and back within 3 days so they said they'll look into it...

They look into it while I'm on hold and carry out the process instantly without telling me so I get cut off, and then I have two phones both without signal so I can't get back in contact with them... Smarttt

haha
so you went out and back in, was it over a 3 day period?

I got this, do you think it will do?

Can't see your pic of whatever you've bought iMacMart... but see above... They clearly CAN do it instantly from one vodafone number to another so I'd push them for that

Took me about 3 advisers / days / chats to get this actioned but it clearly is possible despite what they like to tell us

So if I got a new SIM they would move it over, not sure why they keep saying they can't? I'm not leaving them and staying with them...

If you have Voda PAYM at the moment, and you bought another Voda PAYM plan from MPD/SPC as myself and Tom did... then they will tell you that sort of transfer isn't possible... but at a technical level it is possible as they just carried it out for me

They were previously making me wait until 20 May to meet some notice period / termination date from when I requested it. Which would move me over to PAYG. Then I move back from Voda PAYG to PAYM. But based on Tom moving to Three and back so quickly (no 30 days), I asked them to look into it again and they carried out the switch.

Be prepared to be a bit firm though on the phone as obviously for some reason they don't like doing PAYM to PAYM?! No idea why

Very glad you got that sorted but very annoyed they didn't do the same for me!! I spent ages talking to them before giving in...

Ive just ordered my first Samsung phone, got my self a sim free. Yes a lot of cash up front. But its worth it..
And i can not wait for this to arrive. Been using a WileyFox for the last 6 months and LG G3 before that. (used that for 2 years)

Anyone recommend me case for this please?

I gave up on note series after 7 got released, not because of the battery fiasco but because specs were same as s7 which was released £150 cheaper and 6 months earlier... it used to be the note that was the top device on the market and everything else was catching up 6-12 months later. Now unless you abuse the pen all the time then it's disappointing.

I'm willing to bet the Note 8 is going to be distinguishably different in all areas in comparison to the S8 than the S7 to Note 7 was.

Love my Spigen Thin Fit - loads of protection, minimal bulk

Confirmation received today that my S8 (Sim Free) has shipped from Chitter Chatter. However, the email states that "You will be receiving your sim free unlock code for your phone via email on Friday. Please keep this code safe as you will need this to unlock the handset to selected networks".

Concerned that an unlock lock is needed, I contacted them and was advised that they are EE phones which will be unlocked. Apparently, this has been permitted by EE due to problems with their normal supplier.

I queried the firmware updates as I would want to receive Samsung updates and not wait for an EE version. According to CC, after entering the unlocking code, it will be no different to a standard factory unlocked handset and will not be reliant on EE updates. Do you foresee any issue with this?

Got same e-mail as well from chitterchatter but there is no tracking details.
I also ordered from CarphoneWarehouse earlier today just in case and already got tracking info from DPD for delivery tomorrow on that one.

Looks like I'll be getting both tomorrow and will have to decide which one to keep, £639 +possible £35 cashback (not holding my breath after initial issues) unlocked EE, or £689 with speaker unbranded... hmm

I suppose I can try both and see as well if neither has red tint issues or any other problems

Ordered mine, having to get it sent to store and it wont be there until Saturday at the earliest. Oh well, solider on with my iPhone in the mean time!

Fyi, cancelling my chitterchatter order was quick and painless. It showed in my PayPal account almost instantly and it took my card provider/bank about 3 days to process it back into my account.

My S8+ from carphone warehouse came today. I'm still trying to figure out if it has red tint, pretty sure it doesn't as I'd imagine it would be pretty obvious.

This phone makes my iPhone 7 Plus feel like a 3310 in terms of design

Well, the e-mail I got says the phone got despatched already so it's not as easy as cancelling. Glad you've got yours sorted in the end :).

I will probably boot up both and then return the unwanted or sell locally if it turns out that there is no stock and they're in demand.

It's a question of whether or not I need the speaker or not, I don't think I do but I can see it coming in handy in the summer for pool etc and it works as a battery pack as well.

Mine has also already been shipped, so it is too late to cancel. If the code truly switches the phone to a BTU/XEU firmware, then fair enough.

My cashback was £19.20 via Quidco which is shown as tracked.

Mine hasn't tracked properly but I've got a claim for £35 put through by quidco staff, it hasn't gone through yet though so not holding my breath.

Aha sorry... Thought you were going from Vodafone to Vodafone but you're actually going EE to EE?

Still... They'll probably be like Vodafone and tell you it isn't possible when it is

Yeah it's annoying... Like is say I've spoken to them SO many times and each time I've been told it wasn't possible. Now today I was a bit firmer... Saying I'd been lied to... Mentioning I have an email chat transcript etc and they finally sorted it

I suspect that you'll see the cashback amount reduced to £19.20. I understood that the £35 related to S8 contract sales - at the bottom of the Quidco page when I placed my order, it stated that Sim Free sales were paid at 3% which is the amount at which mine has tracked. That said, £620 for the phone is still a great deal provided it can genuinely be fully unlocked and revert to BTU/XEU firmware.
