**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ Thread ****

Its difficult finding a permanent replacement for my Z3 which has been my daily driver for over 2 years now.

The S8 was my upgrade from the Z3 too. I love it. to hold, weight etc its far superior let alone screen, performance etc.
We lose out on battery life as a result - a penalty we have to realistically expect with the 4k and gorgeous screen.

Had a week with mine now - makes a good replacement for me from the Z3. However for S6 etc users - I wouldn't have made that jump

Pretty sure they're only noise isolating, like any other in ear pair of earphones are, they've not advertised any sort of actual noise cancelling functionality and until I got foam tips for them, they didn't even isolate very well for me, certainly weren't cancelling any noise actively. You mention the cable being nice however on the move it's a nightmare for noise, every slight touch of the cable generates a horrible noise from the braiding, I think they'd have been better off just plastic shrouded.

As I mentioned before though, for me, the foam tips transformed them - before that, they were pretty much destined for the bin, now I find them decent enough to use as a day to day pair, though still not matching up to my super.fi5. I'd highly recommend people get a set, they're only a couple of quid on Amazon and really improved the noise isolation and sound quality. These fit perfectly and come as 6 pairs so plenty of replacements - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01BHD9A0Y/

What size did you get? The ones that came with the phone are too small for my ears.

I've had my S8 for just over a day.

And first impression is, absolutely brilliant. The build quality is excellent. This is my first Samsung phone btw.

The screen is amazing. Had to go in settings to increase the screen resolution. Always on display mode is very good.
Iris scanner is excellent. So far everytime i have used it, i've had no issues, regardless the time...

I downloaded an app called, Package Diasabler Pro(Samsung) very handy app.One click and you disable all apps/bloatware that you dont want/need. I recommend this
Battery life is good. Took it off charge today morning at 7am. I have been in work today for 6hrs. Been on 4g all day, browsing, youtube, gaming, watched football on bt sports and im currently on 17%

Good thing i have a Spigen thin case. If i didnt would have scatched the phone today. Case did the job today :p
Had some few banters with Haters (pro Apple) at work today. Went down well :D

I was tempted to get the clearview case but when I saw it in person I had the impression that the clear cover will scratch easily or wont hold up well in the long run. I got the LED case instead. Very nice sleek looking and the led is also functional. No stand though..

I also use accubattery pro. Do you follow the 80% charging limit the app proposes? I did my own research and read numerous articles regarding charging battery and i think the 80% charge limit is spot on.

Depends on what I need at the time - if I'm just topping up and know I won't need extra battery I will stop at 60-80% or w/e but if I'm say leaving early morning and know will be out all day without access to charger or will do a lot of heavy use then will charge to full.

Thanks guys

location, wifi, data and sync all on - wifi in use

Accubattery pro sounds like it may be worth it. GSam 'app sucker' only seems to show GSam itself lol plus 'combined app CPU' of 29%

Got any more info on the 80% charge limit please? Sounds intriguing... stops it charging above 80% for battery health is my guess? Or it is just a reminder and you have to unplug it yourself?
Location tends to use up a lot especially if you got it on high and you let apps use it - I believe you can select which apps use it but by default everything tries to use it, even google maps and contact app will scan constantly for nearby places etc. I only switch location on when I need it, pointless to have it on all day if you're not using it.

As for the battery - apparently (although probably just a myth) charging to around 80% is less damaging to the battery and therefore is supposed to make it last longer (ie capacity at 95% after a year instead of say 80% - according to app charging from 20 to 80% is equivalent to about 0.20 cycle wear and charging to 100% will make it 0.70 or so). I'm not fussed about it but the app has tons of good info like how much each app uses, average discharging time, battery life and battery health etc, it tells you how quickly phone is charging as well so you can compare chargers and so on. You can see at what rate (in mV) the phone is currently discharging so helps figuring out best settings.

Thanks Phoenix, will check it out because after not using my phone for a while it still only dropped to 3.6%/hour.

So be interesting to see what's using it. And point taken regarding location, hopefully it has an iPhone style settings bit where you can simply go down a list and tick things on and off which have location access (one thing I liked about my temporary iPhone lol)

Will have a search :D Cheers

Have any of you S8 / + crew upgraded from a Note 4? That had a 1440x2560 screen too and I was wondering how feel about the S8 / + screen in comparison? I'm still thinking going from a Note 4 to S8 / + but the asking tariffs from EE / Carephone is what's putting me off. I'm due in July, so I still have 2.5 months left and prices might start dropping in favour of the impending Note 8.

Yes 3.6% sounds like it's showing average overall usage rather than current one - accubattery shows both.

Also, if anyone is interested in remapping Bixby - app called bxActions is free and still works after latest update.

Yes, read my review few pages back - long one so east to find. Definitely worth it. After 3days with s8 I can't even look at my note anymore: ). It's going straight to CPW tomorrow to trade for £120. I loved the note and had it since release but the s8 is like moving from s2 to note4 kind of leap.

Anyone coming from a iPhone 7+?

I've got the S8+ on order (waiting for Amazon to finally get their stock in), and interested to hear anyone who's made the same/similar change?

After having a reasonable whinge about the battery life a few pages back, my s8+ has now settled down to offering a little more than 6.5 hours SoT, which will do me nicely. Someone mentioned turning location seeking off precise or something, which I did two or three days ago. Perhaps that has been responsible for the improvement or maybe my usage has settled down or sommat.

The battery on my S8+ is fantastic. Coming from a S6 Edge it blows it out the water :)

On and off checking FB, Instagram, Internet, emails and i'm still at 64% battery....thumbs up from me.

Finally got my screen sorted properly - looks better on the lovely S8 screen as opposed to PC monitor. The clock is XPeria Clocks from app store. Using Sunset Sea theme from store combined with Black (MINU) icon set and Ocean Galaxy wallpaper from samsung theme app too. No clutter, only have calendar in full transparency no background to the right and my music apps (audible, amazon music, samsung music player) to the left. have my most used apps in App Edge and also using edge for notes and reminders. Extra 15 apps or so that I like to access quickly in the little folder on the bottom.

Yes I sold my iPhone 7s plus a couple of days ago, the s8+ is amazing, the screen blows you away, when I had the phones side by side it was just so obvious. Still some things I miss from iOS but on the whole so much more fun using the s8+ it'll tidee over till the iPhone 8 comes out!

After 8 years with iPhones I'm about to get my first Android (S8). I'm scared :(

Hopefully I won't be running back to my 6S. The S8 looks amazing, hopefully it's going to be a smooth transition.
