Possibly got hit by a load of other crap / lightning at the same time - they could have hit bananas on the track. Or I had two bananas and got hit once. I forget!

I hate those god damn lighting...to think I just picked up a double power up and then get strike, grrrrrrrr
 
Managed to get 2 races in , i think the concept of the tournaments is really good, It would be nice to be able to post times solo though but I guess that would give the solo player an advantage.

Time trials are actually something we could do, and was something we did back on the Wii over on the AVF forums. It was a great laugh. Pick a course, take a screenshot of your time and email it to whoever runs the trial. Then have a post that gets updated with the leaderboard. It's all a bit manual, but it works.

Yeah the Tournament is a good idea.

The last Mario Kart I played was on the N64, so I think coming 3rd after just a weekend of playing the game wasn't too shoddy. Half of it's luck though. In one of the races I was in 4th place and it gave me a Bullet thing which nearly took me in to the lead!

In another I dropped down to 8th thanks to 3 red shells in a row and it gave me....a single banana!

Did I read right... they took out firehopping from Deluxe????

So I was busting my balls trying to firehop yesterday in our game to no avail?!?!?!?!
 
Just another query:

When you run over an item block, I remember in MK8 you could quickly stop the random selection by pressing on the item use button, but this time in MK8 it just seems to honk the horn....

Any idea how to do this?

Correct, but there are still some advanced techniques in there.

They don't come anywhere near the boost of fire hopping though.

Yeah the double items does make me employ a certain item strategy that seems to be holding up... In short, can you hold enough items to survive the barrage of red and blue shells? Well... double coin is bloomin' useless I can tell you that!

Yeah firehopping is gone AFAIK.
 
I noticed most people using carts yesterday, but I was using a 2 wheeled motorbike of some sort that had served me well in in the single player.

Should I be looking at 4 wheelers?
