I think the only people deluded are those that thought brexit was going to be good in the short to mid term. It was always going to be absolutely horrible. The EU can be unreasonable as they like and if they choose to be, that's our tough luck - we chose to leave, they didn't kick us out.
I continue to be baffled by comments I read to the effect of "the EU is looking to screw us - which just shows why we should have left". They are obviously going to look out for themselves - why on earth wouldn't they?! We pretty much deserve whatever crappy deal we get.
Hopefully the long term will be more positive. I've been surprised that it hasn't been that bad so fair (as in, better than I expected) so long may that continue.... but we haven't really started yet.
Completely agree with you.
Longer term we really don't know either. Given the a large reason for Brexit is immigration, we're going to go through a hell of a rollercoaster ride for that! It's all an unknown and a bit of a gamble. In a world with some very big superpowers, I know we've be better off part of something bigger than our own little Island.
On the subject of Gibralter, maybe it's time to give that back to it's rightful owners now too? Sure, people who live there prefer it under our rule but many ex-pats live in SPain happily. We talk about controlling our destiny, we can start by releasing land under our control.
