I think the only people deluded are those that thought brexit was going to be good in the short to mid term. It was always going to be absolutely horrible. The EU can be unreasonable as they like and if they choose to be, that's our tough luck - we chose to leave, they didn't kick us out.

I continue to be baffled by comments I read to the effect of "the EU is looking to screw us - which just shows why we should have left". They are obviously going to look out for themselves - why on earth wouldn't they?! We pretty much deserve whatever crappy deal we get.

Hopefully the long term will be more positive. I've been surprised that it hasn't been that bad so fair (as in, better than I expected) so long may that continue.... but we haven't really started yet.

Completely agree with you.
Longer term we really don't know either. Given the a large reason for Brexit is immigration, we're going to go through a hell of a rollercoaster ride for that! It's all an unknown and a bit of a gamble. In a world with some very big superpowers, I know we've be better off part of something bigger than our own little Island.

On the subject of Gibralter, maybe it's time to give that back to it's rightful owners now too? Sure, people who live there prefer it under our rule but many ex-pats live in SPain happily. We talk about controlling our destiny, we can start by releasing land under our control.

There is one massive reason we wont give up Gibraltar and its not cause we have feelings for the people who live there but its purely because we monitor all shipping passing it for the Americans and post Brexit we need to keep them sweet. Everything else about Gibraltar and sovereignty is just bluster.

We are the rightful owners of Gibraltar - it says so in the Treaty of Utrecht.

Why? They have a tight deadline. Did May ask them to rearrange all their meetings and put things on hold so she could go on a power trip? She could have had a GE first and then put article 50 in. If you aren't ready to start talks then don't fill the paperwork until you are,

The EU arent ready for any proper talks - they have to wait for France and Germany to sort themselves out before any real work gets done. Making any sort of comment about whether a weak or strong government might sway peoples votes so they should shut up about it.

The rightful owners are the residents who are British.

Is this a presidential election? No mention of the Conservative party on this advert from Mansfield!

You say that as though they have the moral high ground... Spain, the country with a couple of enclaves in north Africa?

What's the basis for Spain's claim? What about the Treaty of Utrecht? What about the right of self-determination for the people of Gibraltar?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it a land grab during a time of the times of the old "Great British Empire"? Taken from the Spanish during a war during the 1700's? Forget what the Utrecht treaty stays and want people voted for, it was originally taken? :D

Her personal approval rating is so much higher than Corbyn's it is in their interests to focus on the individual and personalities. Ironically, Labour probably don't mind too much either, as once you look beyond Corbyn you quickly come to Dianne Abbott.

Yeah guys, forget about the legal treaty and the rights of the people that live there. **** 'em!

But that really matter? I mean we're going to go through a painful Brexit with nearly half the population not having voted for it? Sure, more did but.....
How often does Gibralter get to vote on the matter? As so much time has gone by it's accepted that we rule it, but is that really right? Land grabbed during times of war should really be returned? We not want control given back to us from the EU, should we therefore be returning land that didn't once belong to us?

Just throwing thoughts out there !
...and then there's the Falklands...what else ? :)

Its the same at all the rallies and talks she is doing round the country. Not one conservative sign, its all about May.

I was wondering the same thing as to when this became a Presidential election. Seems like we are being told we are no longer voting for our local MP but solely for who we want as PM>

If there was any significant support for Gibraltar re-joining Spain in Gibraltar then you can make the case for a referendum. As it is, there isn't. The right to self-determination must be recognised by everybody - and that includes the EU.

I guess we can have the United States back? And all those African countries that fought for their independence should sod off too! Argentina is now Spanish again?

You're talking about places that have voted, and continue to vote to remain overseas territories of the UK. (Granted Gibraltar hasn't voted for a while, but I don't see any suggestion they want another vote on the matter).

It's the will of the people to remain so, why would we not respect that?

Step 1: Invade a whole bunch of countries
Step 2: Displace/exterminate local population
Step 3: Claim the immigrant population has the right to self determination

The story of the British Empire. :p

Story of human history.

Americans aren't even the original indigenous people of that continent anyhow... after one generation has populated an areas it really has to come down to what they want to do anyhow :s even if it isn't an ideal situation.

The same sequence may be applied to every other successful civilisation in history. Don't like it? Don't get invaded.
