Paypal ripping me off ! please advise

Debt collectors who have no power and you'll only get a CCJ if they take you court (very unlikely) and they win (even more unlikely unless you don't turn up).

If it does actually get to that point, you just pay the money within 30 days and you can have the CCJ removed from your credit record.

You haven't entered into a credit agreement with PayPal, so they can't do anything to your credit record without taking you to court (as above).

They've made the decision to pay people money for an arbitrary reason, what makes you responsible for reimbursing them for that decision?

Sorry, but you are all sorts of wrong. Credit agreement or not CCJ's appear on your credit report and CCJ's are not solely for defaulting on credit agreements.

Paypal themselves will not take you to court, they'll sell your debt for pennies on the pound, the collections agency will add their fees and they absolutely will do their utmost to enforce the debt.

As for not turning up in court, that is the absolute worst thing you can do, how the hell do you expect somebody to defend themselves?

I would just pay the money and close the PayPal and eBay accounts. Far too many scammers around these days, and it's not worth the untold stress for £90.

Seller protection requirements include:
  • Ship the item using a qualified Shipping company according PayPal’s User Agreement to the address on the Transaction Details page.
  • The item sold must be a physical, tangible item that can be shipped. This means intangible items such as digital goods and services aren’t covered.
So pretty sure he wouldn't be covered.

Did you actually read any of my post?

Bad idea, Paypal will chase him for the money, it'll start with debt collectors, move to a CCJ and ruin his credit rating and eventually, one way or another he'll have to pay it.

They will chase, but that's about it.

+1

I've seen multiple posts recommending to just close an account... TERRIBLE ADVICE.

PayPal will chase you for any amount.

They will chase, nothing else.

What untold stress? It's not particularly stressful getting sent letters with empty threats in.

It's BS, utter BS. PayPal only go as far as asking you to reimburse them backed up by empty threats about what they "may" do.

This is BS of the highest order. You're just guessing.

If you dont feel like paying them back, remove you card and bank details cancel DD and just forget about the account.

It happen to me a few years ago but was a phone, had emails and letters from debt collectors but gave up after 6months, they will NOT take you to court unless it's more than £1000 you owe them a paypal rep told me that.

Anyway they need to prove that you owe them that money.

You can setup a new paypal/ebay within 20 minutes, without linking your old account.

This happened to me I pursued it for 3 hours on the phone and refused to hang - they refunded me. Speak politely but firmly and insist in taking it further when they say they can't help. Remind them they judged on average call length and ask if they can hang up :)

You'll get a result but you'll have to set aside a good half a day, if that time is worth £90 only you can decide.

surely if the accounts have been hacked that's their problem not yours

this

I can understand them sometimes having to take one side in a dispute etc.. but if the accounts have been hacked then surely that is either their problem or a problem for the account owner as they're the parties who have screwed up.

What makes you think a county court will side with pay pal in this instance or that pay pal would even take it that far over this amount?

Please feel free to point out the part you can verify as BS?

As someone who got shafted by paypal many years back I simply told them to go sodomise themselves with a broom handle. There was no chasing, no harassing, nothing. As far as I know they're still expecting that £400 at some point! :D

LOL at this appearing on your credit record if you dispute the balance. That could only ever happen if it eventually made it to court and you ignored a court order to pay. What sort of power do you people think Paypal have? Seriously...

If you dispute the balance the likely outcome is that Paypal will give up eventually and it will never make it to court. The downside is that you have pretty much broken all ties with Paypal after that point and you lose access to a decent (aside from situations like this) payment platform.

You're making things up. You don't just get a CCJ because a company says you owe them money. I've had to abandon more than one PayPal account. The most recent one for about £350 because the idiot buyer damaged the item, swapped half of the contents and then claimed they received it like that.

No-one, least of all me, claimed you automatically get a CCJ because you owe somebody money. However, should they or the DCA they use to claim back the debt decide to take you to the county court and the judge rules against you then you'll get one, and beyond reports of fraud it's the worst black mark you'll get on your credit report and for the amounts the op is talking about, why bother even risking it?
