ok next burger you eat the cow gets ripped apart by dogs while people run it down on horseback

As opposed to shot and left to die from sceptecima? Or dying in agony from poison? Or slowly starving in a snare?

The problem is, as the report commissioned and then ignored by parliament showed, the animal welfare case is not that clear cut.

I have no love of hunting, I just hate bad laws, and the foxhunting ban falls into that because it neither saves foxes nor objectively reduces their suffering. The crux of the issue seems to be something else disguised by claims of animal welfare, much as racism is often covered up as anti immigration...

Seems like this is a sudden policy decision on a par with a Trump tweet, distracting, divisive and probably to prevent the discussion about clear incompetence following a total lack of diplomacy.

2 days after inauguration invite Trump (get nothing in return), get told by India and former colonies free movement is a pre requisite for trade deals, spiral out of control for negotiating a divorce from the EU. I know I think a strong and stable government would bring back fox hunting about now...

We need a strong and stable government who start negotiations by saying, we might pay nada if you mess us about, oh you've called our bluff you're interfering with The UK general election, which I just called because (well actually I've got nothing as funny as the reality of the insanity of that choice).

That's probably an accurate summation. Let everyone argue over a free vote (which is not a promise to repeal or anything), and save having to answer difficult questions.

Largely unnecessary given how utterly incompetent the opposition has been today (even by their low standards), but a pretty good diversion.

Theresa May announces she wants to bring back fox hunting

It's not like she has got more important things to be worrying about

Completely horrific - simply shows a part of the mentality the torys want to re-introduce - they are desperate to take us back to the old days - everything - back to fox hunting - back to a very class divided society, they are hell bent on this

I thought the Party Election Broadcast by the Conservatives on BBC today was interesting. It barely mentioned the party and made it all about May. Almost entirely positive until right at the end when it asked the viewer who would be a better leader, May or Corbyn. Putting any party loyalty to one side for the moment I thought it was a good piece of electioneering.

So Labour Party Election Broadcast tonight. Very little mention of Corbyn (5-10 seconds of footage maybe?), lots of promises about public services, NHS, Police and Education at the forefront. Some mention of housing.

Followed by the One show and a fluff piece with Mr and Mrs May...

Well the fox hunting gaffe is welcome, May's arrogance has clearly got the better of her on that one.

Now Labour and the Lib Dems need to capitalise and use this to paint May as a typical cruel nasty old Tory.

That the ban has never worked is neither here nor there, what matters in elections now is the best hatchet jobs and lies.

Sickening. Maybe she'll introduce her new flagship policy soon 'the Workhouse'
How anyone can even contemplate voting for these lunatics is beyond me.

While you think it might be terrible a modern incarnation probably isn't a bad shout. Perhaps people who are unemployed can receive some form of JSA linked to contributions for the first 6 months and then if they want handouts beyond that or if they've not contributed sufficient NI in the first place then they can work for their JSA payments by carrying out community service somewhere within their region - this only need be part time in order to match the standard JSA payment so still plenty of time left over for them to get a proper job and perhaps more motivation for them to do so too.

I agree with all of this.

Unfortunately people actually respond to things such as "Brexit means brexit" and "strong and stable leadership" without having any grasp on the reality of where political parties stand and the issues that affect their own lives. It reminds me of the Family Guy episode where Lois stands for Mayor and just answers every question with "9/11", to thunderous applause.

This had me in stitches: "Nine.......... Eleven"
