A recent opinion poll suggested that 84% of people were in favour of the ban. Has public opinion changed so much in the last decade?
Well if that poll is correct then people now support the ban so it's definitely changed, if the poll is correct ofc. It's very hard to accurately poll something that varies widely between the cities/countryside if you don't poll people in the countryside.

Actually its dropped. 61% in favour of the ban when the ban was introduced and the last poll in 2015 this had dropped to 51%. 52% in urban and 47% in rural so even rural areas the majority still want a ban.

Haha now fox hunting has reared its head again. Just shows they have their priorities all wrong. I'd agree with a humane cull to manage numbers but this is just ridiculous given public opinion on the matter.
TM knows that fox hunting is important to rural (traditionally farming) communities. I live in one such community which traditionally votes Labour and has marginally less interest in Brexit than others. She's banking on the fox hunting line speaking to those people while Brexit remains the more important issue for traditional opponents to fox hunting, who will probably let it slide in favour of leaving the EU.

May didn't raise it. She was asked a question on it and answered with the Tory party line. She hasn't said it is a priority or even if it is on the manifesto as far as I know.
TM only answers pre-approved questions. If there was a question about fox hunting, you can be pretty sure it's something that she wanted to talk about.

She really stumbled and fluffed her answer about Maternity pay when asked by one of the staff on that company visit yesterday - poor show then if she was expecting the question

really? my experience of farmers and the like is that they hate the stuck up toffs ripping apart a terrified animal.

what IS making you vote tory? their quality work on the economy? :p
Well yes, i trust conservatives to do a hell of a lot better than any of the other options with the economy. Look at the state of the Labour party as well - Do you really think they could be a competent government as they are at the moment? They are a joke.

Its because she knows they are going to win, and also knows a large amount of their voters want to preserve Brexit, and so care about that more than anything else and so will vote for them and turn a blind eye to the crazy tory nonsense like fox hunting (the stuff that DC dropped to make them actually electable)

Preserving Brexit at any cost just seems mad though

A year ago nobody thought a hard Brexit with no deals in place would even be on the cards. In fact we were told by the leave campaign that Europe would, of course, give us access to the single market as they have cars and the like to sell.

And that seems the same level of hyperbole, yes we were part of a preferential trading "club" - which happens to be one of the largest in the world - but how did that stop us trading with the rest of the world? Which we currently do....

It prohibits us from negotiating our own trade deals, it impede free trade generally and now pursues protectionist policies.

Wanting to remove the hunting ban is stupid but not enough to stop me voting tory

Probably the same for a lot of people. She has the lead so can make these statements and still easily win it.

I really don't like her. Never have.
As said before. First time the I'm not voting tory ever

Can't wait for smoking ban to be lifted next. When is school leaving age been dropped to 13 again?

All I've heard from labour is no more tax yet all this extra money. Surely at some point they have to say where it's coming from.

And I'm not convinced whacking it all on companies is a good idea with brexit already pushing some biggies out

they have, proper taxation of companies trading in this country. the Amazons, Apples and Starbucks of the world. Removing the tax loopholes the toffs keep exploiting as well.

As with the Tories in the last GE, they are saying all this knowing full well they won't win, if they do it will the same "OH ****!!!" moment for them when Cameron won with such a large portion of the vote.

Whilst this stuff keeps being peddled out - the Tories STILL are the best option for the economy and for managing Brexit. I wouldn't trust Labour with my kids pocket money

Sadly they are the best option out of a bad bunch (including the fox hunting nonsense that has just come out)
