depends on what your used to.

i imagine the DAC/AMP in that thing is awful. i think the alpine amp in my car alone was around £500. i think the head unit for a single din with no screen was £180ish.

if you value sound quality then you really do want to pay extra for a pioneer or alpine. i've noticed a big difference now in 3 different cars on stock speakers going from OEM to pioneer.

it's alright, sounds better than the alpine head unit we pulled out of the car.
 
Have to say, the units above in proper double DIN slots do look rather smart. Unlike my E90 320D which obviously doesn't have the same so you have to bodge it with expensive wiring adapters and a fascia plate.

So, here's a pic of mine. As said before the trim is a bit crap but despite how it looks in the pics, it doesn't having gaping holes at the side of the climate control panel. Elegant it is not, but as I said in my previous post, the functionality is exactly what I wanted so for making things pleasant in what is just a motorway mile muncher I'm fine with it. I wired in a reverse parking camera too because the camera itself was only £20 and it really wasn't too big a deal to get it done either.

^phemo, what did you do with the row of buttons that's normally below the ac controls? for parking sensors/start stop and the like?

on mine had to move it to the ash tray, but as i mentioned earlier i'd love to get the lid back like you have there.
 
My car's a bit of a poverty spec one to be honest so the only button it had on the lower button panel was the stop/start toggle. Because it was just the one button I did something that sounds really quite ghetto - opened the panel up, soldered a couple of wires to the PCB, ran the wires out and mounted a small hidden push button/LED switch under the dash where there was a convenient blanking plate for something my car didn't have. It doesn't actually look too bad really because it's hidden away. I just couldn't think of any other way that made sense at the time.

If I had heated seats and the parking sensor toggles too I'd probably have splashed out for the mount to relocate the buttons to the ashtray even though it is a pain losing the power socket and compartment there. I just can't think of any other way to keep all the buttons without it looking really crap.

interesting, mine's just got the one button for the parking sensors [really strange spec, they splashed for the auto wipers, all round parking sensors, xenons, voice activated bluetooth, cream leather and that wood effect but then stopped short of doing anything with the seats], so maybe i might have to look into something similar, although my facia plate is different, flat face so i suppose a steady hand with a dremel and i could mount them vertically there. would look weird though :(

luckily mine's too old to have any truck with that stop start rubbish, good ol' gas guzzler
 
Iv'e ordered the JVC KW-M730BT I think its a price error on Halfords site at £329 , everywhere else its £399

Decided to install the unit myself....I had a go at moving plastics etc...on my MX5 after work tonight think I can do it if I take my time.

Bought one of these too..after being quoted £175 for a rear camera install :rolleyes:

Where are you routing the camera wire?
 
Corsa D, Eonon GA6155F.

It was stupid slow at first, ended up installing a custom android ROM which sped it up a ton.

Paid about £220 for it.

No DAB at the moment, but you can buy the receiver for £40-50, but that's for another time. I mainly use it for Spotify(offline) and Sygic maps. Thinking about buying a reversing camera to mirror the screen, so I'm not having to look down.

as in you just put it their until you get rid of it or it's still plugged into the car as a workaround?

had the same issues in the z4 and the r56 mini. decided to go with parrot in the mini rather than hide the OEM head unit in the dash somewhere underneath and opted to just upgrade the full system in the z4. before that in the civic and golf it was a simple swap from oem to pioneer head units with no fuss.
 
By overwhelming popular demand here is my install.

It includes the added bonus of the wires going to my under seat sub if I can ever figure out how to power the bloody thing. Due to the normal demographic that ones the LXX Turbo (60+ women) there is a lack of audio installs on the web. I cant find any where to get the power from the battery into the cabin.

Hope this helps easyrider. Its the sort of install you should truly aim for I must say.

Think I'm going behind the Passengers seat in through the panel that covers the Plugs and electrics for the roof.

My plan is to route the wire through here then out through the boot :)

no, I ripped it out and the only place to store it while I was installing the other was in the glovebox - the car is tiny.

that unit in the glovebox is not connected to anything.
