Labour manifesto is largely simple soundbites Labour know they will never actually have to implement and pay for as they've no chance of getting enough of a majority to see them put into practice. It's sad to see so many people so easily manipulated by a "leak" designed to garner support for a lame duck party with no future in its current state.

Obviously it's still TBC and if the final manifesto comes out people can adjust their decision if it's different.....but basing your voting decision on a manifesto is anything but 'sad'. It's pretty much the only thing that politicians can be held to.

Contrast David Cameron's EU referendum manifesto commitment, to Teresa May's commitment to not call a snap election eh?

Nationalise the rail? 10s of billions if Corbyn wants to do a proper job...

Where are you pulling that figure from? Rail infrastructure and maintenance is already nationalised and the plan is to just not put operator franchises out to tender again when the current ones expire. It certainly won't cost "10s of billions".

I like what I've seen so far. It's bold and unashamedly Labour. For me, that was Miliband's biggest problem; he repeatedly seemed ashamed of the party's left-wing roots.

yes also the plan to nationalise energy firms isnt what it seems, I think they plan to start a rival not for profit company and undercut everyone else, a very good idea if it works

People seem to be blind to the fact that half the UK railways are already state owned. Foreign state owned. We opened up our railway network to private companies, and foreign governments bought it up. So UK commuters are subsidising German, French, Dutch, Hong Kong and Spanish public transport.

Mugs in the UK just lap it up though.

Some franchises don't end till 2030, so unless he wins back to back to back governments he will do half a job... So if he wants to do it in a term he will in fact have to buy them out of their franchises.

Where have you got that from? They've said anyone earning over £80,000 would pay more tax. That's the top 5% of earners. And it's not 90% tax!

And that's only more tax on the money they earn past the 80k mark, it's not like all their wages will suddenly be taxed silly amounts.

They previously committed to a top rate tax of 50%. With the loss of personal allowance, that's an effective rate of tax of 75% for income between £100k and £123k. Not 90% no. But Labour have been at those levels before. It didn't end well.

Lots of good promises in the Labour manifesto, and as a leader I don't care if Corbyn is a bit dull/wet, at least he's not a loony like Trump.

My big concern is that Labour have a history of signing cheques without having any way to pay...do you want to live hand to mouth with a massive and increasing credit card debt but have all the nice shiny things you want, or accept that you just can't afford to have everything, cut your cloth accordingly and be sensible. If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is...

I just don't have any faith that Labour will deliver on this manifesto without bankrupting us all in the process, however good it sounds.

I don't understand why on the TV debates they don't have to do a power point presentation, run through in detail their plans. In what other area of life do you get away with not presenting your plan to the board?

The election is one big PR stunt nowadays. How to win votes rather than setting out a vision. Globalisation won for the most part, politicians are middle managers to larger powers now. Even Trump has realised how complex the reality is.

The TV debates exist to "bring in" those who do not care about politics, dare I say the Facebook/Xfactor generation? At this point, even before the manifestos were released/leaked, those who are interested in politics already know what they need to make an informed decision.

I would be happy to see an end to TV debates in their current format, they are basically conjecture and PR exercises with zero substance.

Theresa May pretty much did end them this time round and personally, I have no problem with that.

Boils down to if a democracy is about MORE votes by any means required to get MORE people involved or should it be more "serious".

Politicians are not always "TV People" but should they need to be? Remember how uncomfortable Gordon Brown appeared in the debates.

About two-thirds are due for renewal before 2022. That should be enough to reach tipping point.

Only one (Caledonian) isn't up until 2030.

The first tender is due for renewal in August 2017 so you could soon see after the election how much of an impact it makes on the service.

I think the private companies might own the trains though?

I am too young to remember the days of public owned transport and energy suppliers etc, what was it like?

I am also too young but my old man who has been commuting for 30 years, aswell as a lot of colleague think nationalisation is a terrible, terrible idea.

Plus when most of the commutes are made by Londoners and the South East, or the rich as labour like to call them, why should we ask the rest of the country to share the burden even more than they already do?
