Stockton

Northallerton and the surrounding villages are very nice to live in. Commute to Stockton (22 mile)

QFT

Northallerton really is a nice town if it's within commuting distance. I used to work there at Tithe bar & grill. As mentioned, a lot of the surrounding villages around Stockton are nice, Yarm in particular is pretty. I'd say Great Ayton & Stokesley would be a bit far out for your commute. Middlesbrough isn't that bad imo, not as bad as some people make out, it does has its bad areas, but it has nice areas too, however, the best thing about Teesside, is the surrounding areas. The North Yorkshire moors are stunning, as are the Yorkshire dales, Saltburn & Redcar (the beach in Redcar, not the town!) beach are pretty nice and there are loads of old fishing villages scattered up the east coast, all within an hour of Stockton / Middlesbrough. Stockton town centre itself though, i'd keep well clear! It's a whole different kettle of fish, the species of animal you get there are VERY strange! I've not heard of any bad areas in Ingleby Barwick, but it is huge!

When i lived in middlesbrough I got a brick through my window the first week, then some smackheads came knocking trying to buy heroin. When it was explained to them that we didn't have any, they tied our front door to the gatepost (so it couldn't be opened), then set fire to it.

Middlesbrough is lovely.

Travel there and through for work regularly, the place has to be the most depressing place on earth, even the foliage is greys, browns and wasteland in it's appearance. The locals, oh boy, you get them everywhere but around those parts they are the majority not the minority. AVOID!

My brother ran a pub in Stockton for years he had some stories about the locals, and events on "payday".
Remember a number of years ago Boro won worst town in the UK? the response from everyone in Boro was they should have crossed the river to Stockton.
I went to Tesside Poly, (yes im old), I maybe bias (as its where im from) but id stick to the Durham and surrounding area. Even Durham city centre is a 30 mins drive to Stockton and you are much less likely to have someone steal your radiators and all the copper pipe out of your house when you go home for the weekend. My mate was robbed 6 times in 6 months and had an armed siege on this street in his first year in Boro, now this was back in the early 90s but i hasn't got much better.
The thing with Durham and the North east is there is some beautiful villages and areas with some of the nicest people you will ever meet, BUT there is also some areas that are like something from The Hills Have Eyes, 5 generations of inbreeding and living on benefits (all since the 80s as well :S ). Ever meet a great grandmother in her 40s? Stockton is the place.

I love the north east, moved here 17/18 years ago and just prefer the people in general. I live 5 minutes outside of Newcastle city centre and have got to know some dodgy old folk and been in some dodgy old places over the years but taking a trip in to Stockton and the surrounding areas is a whole other experience, Back in 2000 to around 2004 it was rough as hell around my way. it never had that bleakness that places in teeside seem to radiate, sure theirs something in the smog!

As others have said, you will find some beautiful places in the outer areas, lovely views and great people. Look around and it isn't hard to find somewhere a stones throw form the A19 and A1 which will make the commute a breeze.

TS1 Postcode then eh?

God that's all rather depressing!!!
Perhaps we'll stick to outside of Stockton.
I'm looking at Ingleby still - you can get so much for your money there!

lol...

I lived in Middlesbrough town centre many moons ago...

Mates moped was stolen from the back yard, they lifted it over the wall.
Left the front door unlocked once and someone just walked in and stole a VCR and some other stuff, we were in the house at the time.
Solicited by prostitutes more than once on the way home.
Burnt out cars constantly.

I actually think they have torn down that street entirely now.
