**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ Thread ****

The S8+ supports the new Galileo GPS system, is that a theoretical support or a software upgrade and it'll work support?

If it will support it, be interested to see any differences.

I'm having an issue with my Bluetooth headset, when I'm answering a call the screen won't turn off and since it's in my pocket all buttons are being pressed. I searched the settings but couldn't find anything.

Any ideas?

Galileo won't be fully operational until 2020, but what has been set up, is working with compatible devices. Only the S8 and S8+ support Galileo right now. GLONASS works well, but Galileo is Europe's answer to that and the American system. Ours is/will be better than their ones too. faster lock, more accurate, better timing. You probably won't notice the difference unless you use realtime GPS services a lot.

The fact that tapping the screen rectifies the issue would suggest it's a hardware issue - but lots of people are saying it happened to the S7E last year and was fixed by an update. We'll see, but it's frustrating that Samsung appear to have acknowledged the issue, but not confirmed what's causing it.

Could be a software bug that when triggered awaits an input to clear it.

Can't work out if its my Smartwatch or the phone but none of my phone calls are showing on the watch. Every other notification is showing on the watch.

I got the keyboard cover today, and have to say it's a bit of a gimmick.

1: There is no dedicated full stop button, you must hold alt, then press full stop as it's a secondary character.

2: It's trying o be BlackBerry, but failing at basic BlackBerry wins, like when you press space on a URL, I want it to autofill .com/.co.uk etc. Space just enters a space in URLs. Pointless.

3: Screen rotation cannot be turned on when the keyboard is in use.

4: It's QWERTY, but the symbol and character locations are not standard layout, so you need to become familiar with that.

5: If you've set the navigation bar buttons to the correct layout, then attaching the keyboard resets it, and won't restore your preference when detaching the keyboard.

6: Keys don't illuminate, so it's useless in the dark. This is an AMOLED phone, Samsung should have put holes on the underside so that "on" AMOLED pixels illuminate through the keycaps, and you could customise what colour they light up. Perfect or gamers too. How cool would that have been?!!

The case itself is pretty good though. Offers little front protection of course, but feels good, and is of excellent material quality. If anything, it's a super slim case for those who don't want finger prints on the back of the phone, or scuffs and stuff.

had what I think was a software bug on mine today, phone would unlock with a swipe even though I have both biometrics and pin unlock enabled, spent most of the afternoon trying to fathom out what was wrong, in the end I had to restart the phone for the screenlock to work.

So coming from a HTC is this a good step to get one of these? Any pros or cons, any thoughts welcome! :)

It does depend on what you want from the phone, last HTC phone I had was the HTC Touch HD, from there I brought a Galaxy S2 and have had many of the Galaxy phones over the years.

By far my S8+ is a great all rounder, brilliant large high resolution screen with some great biometric features (logging into websites with your iris), fast loading of apps and games. I've brought mine sim free and there isn't as much bloatware as I thought there would be.

Great camera, powerful specs and the battery life is generally very good. I'm getting just under 6 hours screen on time with quite a high brightness level.

Having moved over from years with the iPhone I can see why Apple have absolutely dominated the market. Their products just work.

Non techies can not be dealing with the plague of issues people are experiencing with, for example, the S8. The only time I remember Apple screwing up was with the antenna issues back with the IP4 (I think it was 4 may have been 5).

My S8 is superior in every way to the 7+ it replaced but it's a shame Samsung seem to rush these products out without conducting proper testing. Apple are still leagues ahead in that respect. I feel I've been lucky my S8 hasn't exhibited some of the problems discussed in this thread but I still had a bizarre problem after the latest software update where the screen went blotchy and became covered in artefacts. It looked like there were liquid spills inside the screen. Tweaked about with the edge colour balance, this reset the device, and bang the screen was crystal clear again. That would never happen on an Apple product.

The irony of this post is I actually despise the Apple brand and I'm slowly phasing out of their eco-system. The next thing to go is the MBP.

Apple products just work is not entirely true. I have family confused about the 5gb iCloud limit and warns about back ups and they then don't realise they have not had a backup for 6 months.

I think the screen issues you mention are more related to the OLED nature of the screen. We will see similar issues once Apple start using them in Q4.

I agree that the S8 is years ahead in software and hardware in some respect.

Apple have, for a long time, taken it easy and maximised on existing designs.
