Travellers rejoice - the Supercard is here.

Not everyone can get a credit card.

True, a very small minority cannot get credit cards. But if we drew a venn diagram of people who get refused credit cards and people who travel the globe spending money abroad there would be very little overlap.
I'm in that overlap.

Oh great, so you can use your Halifax Clarity there and leave the Revolut cards for schoolkids on foreign exchange visits ;)

Clarity is a great card, but it costs more in some instances, and of course, not everyone can get one, and even some of those who can might not want the credit search on their file if they are soon to be applying for something like a mortgage soon.

The beta supercard was the cheapest method of spending abroad, cheaper than the clarity, plus there was the opportunity to get cashback too. That's probably why it was popular.

The new card, is a bit pants. They say that their users perefer to spend directly at the POS, but I was a beta user and must have spent close to £8k with the card, mostly withdrawing cash since nowhere accepts cards up on the altiplano. Some parts of Peru, and the bigger cities in Chile and Argentina were ok though.

I think my issue with Supercard/Revolut is potentially the lack of support if something goes wrong. I have rather more faith in being able to sort something with Halifax along with the inherent protection of it being proper card.

Just spotted that Supercard have charged me for a small pre-auth a few weeks ago but never returned the money to my account. This transaction doesn't show in the app. Perhaps a bug? Seems a bit pointless them running a beta only to completely switch providers for the new card.

Just to update people to my situation, I'm right at the end of my holiday, have used the Supercard for pretty much everything.

What I would advise to people is to not use it for anything pre-authorised; I used mine to pay for hotels, one of the hotels pre-approved when I checked in, by the time I've checked out that transaction has been passed over to my linked credit card already, but the bill was slightly larger at check out so its a different amount, so I've been charged that also. The same has happened at another one of my hotel stays, two payments have proceeded over to my credit card before check out. I used the card to pay at a petrol pump as well, it said it will his pre-approve $200, which it did, I only spent $40, the larger ammount reached my credit card, but was eventually refunded automatically.

The first transaction from the hotel has completely vanished from my Supercard app itself as well. All in, my holiday finishes tomorrow and my credit card statement is reading £1,000 more than it should be.

Card has been fine for purchases in shops and restaurants though.

Travelex have just announced that they'll be closing down Supercard on 24th July - > https://www.travelex.co.uk/services/supercard

A shame. It's been a very useful card to have.

Just in time for my holiday to the States on 27th July!

But in all seriousness, I've been using Revolut for the past year or so and find it more useful, plus it does a heck of a lot more than Supercard does.

I have a Revolut too and use that more than the Supercard but I like the way the Supercard was linked to another card so if the Revolut was out of money and I didn't have internet access I would use the Supercard instead.

Timing is great, when they ceased the beta program last year that was slap bang in the middle of a 2 week holiday.

Yeah, they closed the beta before I went on the States last year and I'd be gone before the new cards were sent out. That's actually when I discovered Revolut and I haven't looked back.

Mondo and Revolut user here. Not used the supercard since they changed it.

Still carried it though considering it came with free travel insurance. I suppose they just couldn't compete with the newer 'challenger' banks and cards. The Supercard app was basic at best and only more recently got touchID

"the costs of running Supercard and delivering the standards of service we expect have been much higher than anticipated." - Quite, I found their service to be very poor. Waited for nearly a month to get a reply from them and it never seemed like they were dealing with or even understood the issue I raised.

I guess they're now going back to their core business of gouging people at airports.

On the contrary, I got a reply within the hour from Revolut using the in app support when I was charged twice in Germany by a DB ticket machine, got my money back within the month too.
