Overwatch

Winning / Losing your placement matches has little effect on your placement SR, you can lose all 10 but play like an absolute monster and get a high rank.
You won't always get paired with other people doing placements, you will also get games with and vs people who have already finished theirs but your MMR matches their current SR, so there is little difference if you place now or wait.

I smashed out 10 in a row last night on my 2nd account I'm only playing tanks on and got a decent placement with a 6w-4l result. Ran into an annoying Torb only player twice, but meh, it happens, blocked and got on with the game.

I think I'm going to wait a week before doing placements this season... let the bulk of the super keen tryhard pro players and smurfs and the newbies who bought the game and just hit lvl25 get through theirs right away and then do placements once the dust settles!
Sounds like a plan! Been away for 8 months, trying to get back into quick play but everyone's skill/knowledge seems to have gone up or mines gone down and there are a lot of haters out there, as you say, hopefully they will be the first to enter. Still having trouble combating a good Zaria though, any tips there any one?

Yea, there's a bit of a mix of players, I think most are friendly and generally have fun in QP. There is still a number who just spit toxic bile for any reason.

Two many DPS and you're one of them, better insult the other DPS.
Team lost better berate the team.
No healers but you're DPS, better not choose a healer and complain that there is no healer.
A Genji and a Hanzo on the team, better complain that people choose Genji and Hanzo.
Widow did crap all match, better tell them they suck.
Team loses with like 3 people under level 10 on the team, better call them noobs and tell them to uninstall the game.

On the subject of Zaria I'd like to get a few tips too, she does seem quite troublesome.

Got an amusing play of the game the other day with symmetra, died at the very beginning of the POTG and got two double kills with turrets whilst dead.

Zarya? She can be tough but a few things that come to mind (pinch of salt, I'm ~2900)

There's a few aspects to dealing with her I think... the first is remembering that her damage output isn't actually that good/scary if she doesn't manage to get charged up... There are certain picks and actions that make it really easy to get charge, which you should try to avoid... Junkrat's grenades, Sym's Alternate fire orbs, Rein's Firestrike, and any other general spammy unfocused damage is a direct route to a 100% charged Zarya who will start to melt faces...

*BUT* having said that, keep in mind that her bubbles don't make her or her target totally off-limits - a lot of people seem to instantly stop shooting when they see the shield go up, which is good when the shield is on a full-health player and Zarya is trying to farm charge... but if the shield is there to save someone who is super-low it can often be worth not holding back; shoot that shield to bits and finish them off before they get away! That goes especially for Zarya herself; it doesn't matter if she gets a ton of charge right before dying!

Barriers work okay against her, so Winston, Rein, Orisa can all be used to help your dps stay safe while they focus her, and she isn't super mobile; so the more mobile dps (genji, tracer, soldier, pharah) are good for keeping out of range of the beam more easily. Sombra is potentially good for the hack denying her shield abilities, but that probably works best in combination with your team focusing her down... Roadhog too can be okay but you've got to pick your moment for the hook - you don't want her right up next to you popping her shield into the combo then having massive charge and your slow ass with no hook

The best thing you can do to learn to deal with Zarya is try learning/practising playing her yourself (that goes for most heroes actually) - you'll soon realise what heroes are easily dealt with and which are difficult

O I've fallen so much. For season 1 I was masters. Didn't play any pc games since then really and now I'm low plat in season 5. Did get placed high plat at end of season 4 but had a losing streak. Didn't think the drop off would be so massive.

If you want to learn Zarya go on youtube, watch videos by CANAS1AN (GM Zarya) who does VOD reviews, then just play her. His videos helped me improve a huge amount on her. Understanding when to use bubbles effectively, stuff like using right click to bounce a soldier in the air then track him with beam to get him out of heal etc

Yes zarya doesn't have much damage and she isn't very good at hitting moving target so if you jump side to side she can't really hurt you.

nearly at masters after getting ranked at 3.3 which is where ended last season! loving lucio atm the amount of genjis ive made swap is nuts :)

That is more a reflection of your play than the character. Her dmg output is dependent on your ability to build charge, and her ability to hit moving targets is entirely dependent on your tracking.

As a symmetra player I can tell you zarya has a real hard time with people that jump about. She is basically a free kill for me.

8-2 with placements 1955 got the same placement score last time and got 1500ish, just dont understand how they figure it out.

What a STRUGGLE! Yesterday I did the 10 placement matches, 9 losses, 1 win. Every team I was in had a drop out early game. 4 games had people who were BRAND NEW to the game asking what hero's do what and barely a couple of levels. ALL matches had my team paired up against triple star players... What the actual F Blizzard? It was the most infuriating thing in the world. Is it broken at the moment? I mean, I'm by no means a good player, my level is 90 I think? But sweet jesus was it a struggle.

As a result, my career average of 2500 is a long way away as I've now got 1490 SR... What an absolute joke. I may sit this season out to be honest.

I feel you're pain, at least it ranked you high than my SR with more wins. Started the QP on Saturday & finished it yesterday. Won 5, lost 5. Got gold's in most games, on point for most of the games & finished 1070 lol. Previous season was 1590 ! Now, I don't know if it's because I paired with my mate (who is 500sr player) ?

I'd like to get up to 2000+ SR but I think my mate is holding me back (I could be wrong & it's just me as a below average player) but I feel my FPS skills that bad, BF4 I rocked even though it's a different beast ! Last season was rollercoaster of SR highs & lows falling down to my placement it gave me. One plus to trying to get a higher rank above 2000+ would be I couldn't pair with my mate haha.

I know this as a complaint of many players but I do seemed to be placed with idiot's who contributed very little to capturing a point & find myself trying harder to fill the player loss.

The good thing for me is being old (41) & not having a high in SR doesn't eat me up (though I always look to be better), couldn't care less as long as it's fun & I do me bit.

Well my placements are done... they went okay - Won 6 lost 4 and ended up 2785, which isn't too bad (around 100SR lower than I finished last season, as a lot of people have reported)

Sticking to tanks this season, I think I have a bigger impact on the game and can play all the tanks pretty good (even Orisa who I've been practising a lot on QP) - starting every game as Winston, if their comp turns out to be too awkward I usually find myself switching to Dva or Hog depending on what they have. Rein, Orisa and to some extent Zarya tend to mainly get picked when I'm in at least a 4,5 or 6-stack, because in my experience they're harder to get full value out of without proper co-ordination, which can only be relied on when grouped with players you know will listen!
