What watch do you wear?

I'm considering treating myself to a nice watch and was wondering, do you guys buy watches second hand or just go to high street jewellers?

I think you will find a bit of everything in here, some buy new, some used, some second hand but new condition. It depends where you live as to how good the jeweller is, my local ones in Fife are pretty poor so I ended up buying at Heathrow when I returned from a mini break with the wife. It worked out quite well as I got 20% off but I gather from some posts on here you can haggle about as much as that anyway......I tried haggling but my haggling goes "please gimmie some money off" "NO" "Ok thanks I'll just pay now then".
Still thanking the lovely Mrs BeeP for buying me the watch, I often look at it and think wow we paid that much for a watch but then I think that one day when I'm gone hopefully my Son will be enjoying it as much as I currently do.

Ahhh thanks, i'm in Glasgow, anyone got any recommendations where to go??

I’ve now had the Ahoi Atlantik for a while and have come to a few conclusions.

1: Sapphire glass that also has AR coating on the outside looks really nice and high end, but any water marks, rain etc makes it look rubbish with the marks it leaves on. You can’t simply wipe them off either, you have to rub it with a wet finger or cloth, then wipe with a dry cloth else you get more marks. One of the downsides to having AR coating on the outside.

2: The stainless steel polished case seems to be very scratch resistant. My previous SS watches had accumulated visible micro scratches from regular use in short spaces of time, not this one, still looks like new. I don’t know the grade NOMOS use, but it must be pretty good.

3: The movement accuracy is good, but not yet as good as the ETA 2824-2 in the Pelagos, although the Pelagos took a year to settle to +1s to +2s a day. At the moment the Epsilon in the NOMOS is gaining around 5s a day.

4: The included strap is good, but the rubber one piece Zuludiver 328 is so much more comfortable, and fitting on this watch. Swapping the buckle over with the NOMOS one makes it all look like it came out the box like this

5: The Pelagos gets more glances and small talk, it does stand out more and people are more familiar with that “Omega/Rolex” look to dive watches (average joe for you...) whereas the Atlantik is a lot more understated.

6: I really like being able to see the time, even with the sun directly aimed at the glass. The AR coating does a superb job and totally removing reflections and glare off light sources. The glass won’t even reflect sunspots onto walls or people’s faces like non front AR coated watches do.

Over all, very impressed! I don’t know when I’ll get bored of this, maybe if NOMOS ever release an Atlantik Chrono one day.

After watching a TGV video on the subject I thought, what the hell and added something inexpensive to the watch box

Not half as horrible as I expected. Mainly bought to see what it was like.

You know what, there's some Invictas that look really, really nice. TGV seemed genuinely impressed, and I've long wondered whether these things are as bad as people make out, or they just don't like them because they aren't worth thousands. If you don't mind an homage, then there are some nice looking options.

Its actually very surprising how good for the money it is. Ive seen replica Rolex watches that cost twice as much and arent half as good. At least with Invicta they might be an homage but they don't try to hide it like Ginault, Squale, Steinhart, Orient, Alpha, Debaufre etc do copying everything and then just replacing the Rolex logo. These guys have a massive logo on the dial, engraved name on the case side, name on the clasp and even put their logo as the counterweight on the seconds hand.

Only thing that lets it down is the bracelet is a dog turd. It's even holding to -1 sec/day :S

I bought my Speedmaster used, from a dealer.

Edit: Over the internet and then phone, from another country (Italy) :)
