I’ve now had the Ahoi Atlantik for a while and have come to a few conclusions.
1: Sapphire glass that also has AR coating on the outside looks really nice and high end, but any water marks, rain etc makes it look rubbish with the marks it leaves on. You can’t simply wipe them off either, you have to rub it with a wet finger or cloth, then wipe with a dry cloth else you get more marks. One of the downsides to having AR coating on the outside.
2: The stainless steel polished case seems to be very scratch resistant. My previous SS watches had accumulated visible micro scratches from regular use in short spaces of time, not this one, still looks like new. I don’t know the grade NOMOS use, but it must be pretty good.
3: The movement accuracy is good, but not yet as good as the ETA 2824-2 in the Pelagos, although the Pelagos took a year to settle to +1s to +2s a day. At the moment the Epsilon in the NOMOS is gaining around 5s a day.
4: The included strap is good, but the rubber one piece Zuludiver 328 is so much more comfortable, and fitting on this watch. Swapping the buckle over with the NOMOS one makes it all look like it came out the box like this
5: The Pelagos gets more glances and small talk, it does stand out more and people are more familiar with that “Omega/Rolex” look to dive watches (average joe for you...) whereas the Atlantik is a lot more understated.
6: I really like being able to see the time, even with the sun directly aimed at the glass. The AR coating does a superb job and totally removing reflections and glare off light sources. The glass won’t even reflect sunspots onto walls or people’s faces like non front AR coated watches do.
Over all, very impressed! I don’t know when I’ll get bored of this, maybe if NOMOS ever release an Atlantik Chrono one day.
