EBay - what do i do here?

Why oh why can't it be repaired anywhere in the world regardless of where purchased

Because it would make life a lot more difficult for Samsung when worrying about parts manufacture, transport of parts, financial internal reporting, inter-group sales and ensuring costs are shared at an arm's length basis and in line with various tax treaties. At least narrowing down to geographic areas makes the process somewhat more streamlined.

Not helpful for the user though :D

"Grey markets."

Stuff for one market (eg. Asia) sells cheaper than stuff in another market (eg. Europe). Reasons differ for all sorts of reasons - tax rates, import duties, europeans willing to pay more money for something etc. Also stuff for different markets may have the same model number, but have different components. And some models are not even available in other markets. Hell, the manufacturer for product X in market A, may not be the same manufacturer as in market B - corporations are often split legally even though they carry the same brand up top.

Manufacturers hate grey markets.
Consumers love em.
Until they go back to the manufacturer for help.
That's when it bites the consumer in the ass.

The internet makes it real easy to buy something direct from Taiwan or Argentina.
But you can't easily use local laws or trading standards when your supplier in Ping-pot-panh says "sorry, no help".

yeah that's dishonest and surely against ebay rules ? i.e false advertising
i bought a jacket listed as a UK item [as filtered on the options], when it finally turned up it was in a package from pakistand and folded uo solid into a pack the size of a paperback novel. it was the wrong size too fortunately, which became the main reason to return it, according to goog maps the "house" postcode was the back lane of an industrial estate. mentioned the lying about location to ebay, they didn't give a toss.

But I woudln't buy off of chinese seller tbh.... not for something expensive like that. UK seller only with solid feedback.
I think the OP's point was they were trying to buy off a UK seller that turned out to be a front for a china company.
And they did a bait n switch with their location.

OP buys something on ebay. Receives it. Is unhappy that it came from China.

Am I getting this right? OP you need to stop using ebay if this is the case. You received the item you paid for who gives a crap where it came from? If you are prepared to pay more to get it from the UK then stop using ebay and buy from a proper retailer like amazon.

So much wrong with this post.

Ebay should act on this

What absolute nonsense. If everything suggests the item is in the UK then why shouldn't the OP try and get the best deal possible?

it's likely it was substantially cheaper.

amazon usually is the cheapest retailer 9 times out of 10 when it comes to electrical goods. or they are usually very competitive where it's only a few quid out.

you would have to be a moron to not see the big red flag that was waving over this purchase.

fair enough if he bought from john lewis, or somewhere else like that but ebay? also he bought it from a non reputable source on ebay not like argos outlet ebay store. it was a random store.

seriously you don't see the big red flag here?

If you'd bothered to have read the whole thread you would have seen that the item was actually above price compared to ebay and yes, even Amazon - shock, horror!

I paid more for the item and bought from this seller due to the very high feedback, the fact it stated the item was in the uk and it was a UK registered address - all this changed when i submitted a case against them.

Nothing to do with being a 'cheapskate', but hey, why let the facts get in the way of a good rant?

Are you OK? Are you having a bad day?

I don't think you have read the thread.

It was listed as being shipped from the UK, the OP said they had sold many of them and had good feedback. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but I wouldn't say that makes him a "cheapskate".

they all say that though. every grey importer says it's from the UK. also feedback again is good because they got what they ordered just like OP did.

OP here is being difficult. he should cancel the case and learn his lesson. if he doesn't want a grey import avoid ebay or at least avoid the uknown retailers on ebay.

As you can see there are UK flags all around the item and states that the item is in the UK.

However, the item that has arrived has Chinese writing on the box and the manuals etc are in Chinese - there is not one word of English anywhere.

This is non sequitur.

The fact that the item is currently located in a UK warehouse, does not mean it can't be a Chinese language.

PsychoSonny is absolutely right. The reason they write "Shipped from UK" is because it's chinese stock located in UK. Not because it's actual UK domestic market stock.
