I recently bought a Samsung Gear VR from a seller - it wasn't cheap, it was the same price as many others, i only bought from them because it seemed like they had sold quite a few without any issues.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemVersion&item=122445716019&view=all&tid=1798825352002

(although the item has now been revised and shows a business address of Hong Kong)

As you can see there are UK flags all around the item and states that the item is in the UK.

However, the item that has arrived has Chinese writing on the box and the manuals etc are in Chinese - there is not one word of English anywhere.

I opened a case:

07 Jun You created a return

Reason for return Doesn't seem authentic

Comments Item is a Chinese import. The box has nothing written in English and there are no English instructions - only Chinese.

There is no mention that the item is either a grey import or not authentic. Had the listing stated anything about the item being an import/non-authentic i would not have purchased.

I paid the correct price for an original English Samsung Gear VR.

Address 530 Metroplex Business Centre Broadway Salford M50 2UE,
Salford, Greater Manchester, M50 2UE

The seller has just replied:

hi my dear buyer, all our items are 100% genuine produced from Samsung exactly, Samsung it a Korea company and all the Samsung factories are also build up in China , so the gift box have some Chinese words on the gift box is normal , most of the items are also have difference languages on it but this is not mean it is fake item not genuine , your complaint is very unfair to me, I'm a honest seller and I also working in Hongkong Ebay, please check it clearly... this is Samsung Chinese website: https://www.samsungshop.com.cn/ I HOPE YOU ARE NOT BUSINESS COMPETITOR DISTURB thanks

And as above, their business details now show Hong Kong and not Manchester as in the original listing.

I am concerned the item is fake or at least an import and also concerned about the warranty or lack of.

What do i do now?

Live chat closed at 6pm as did phones. But have sent a tweet which is open until 9pm apparently.

It may be an original item, just not happy that at no point it was not mentioned it was an import - grrrrr!

could be a grey import. Means you might not be covered in the UK warranty wise ? I know I used to buy all my lenses for my Sony Alpha as grey imports from Hong Kong as they (used to be) a whole lot cheaper. They were all legit, but were supposed to be sales stock in china / hong kong. So it might be legit item but possibly with warranty problems for you in the UK

That's exactly what i think it is - if it was a whole lot cheaper and it was advertised as such instead of the seller passing it off as a UK retail unit i may have been tempted ie i knew what i was buying. However, as i said, the seller stuck UK flags all over the listing, originally gave a UK address and conveniently did not display the areas of the box that contained Chinese text.

OP buys something on ebay. Receives it. Is unhappy that it came from China.

Am I getting this right? OP you need to stop using ebay if this is the case. You received the item you paid for who gives a crap where it came from? If you are prepared to pay more to get it from the UK then stop using ebay and buy from a proper retailer like amazon.

So much wrong with this post.

If you'd bothered to have read the whole thread you would have seen that the item was actually above price compared to ebay and yes, even Amazon - shock, horror!

I paid more for the item and bought from this seller due to the very high feedback, the fact it stated the item was in the uk and it was a UK registered address - all this changed when i submitted a case against them.

Nothing to do with being a 'cheapskate', but hey, why let the facts get in the way of a good rant?

Are you OK? Are you having a bad day?

Some aren't reading the thread or are reading into things that aren't there.

I wanted a UK product, the seller had uk flags all over their listing with text 'genuine uk product'

Upon checking the serial number with Samsung themselves, their official response was:

The device is a genuine device, but it is showing as a non-eu device, so if there was an issue with it, it would not be able to be repaired within the EU

I wanted and paid for a uk product, part of this reason was if anything went wrong I could have it repaired under warranty.

The item is not as described, the seller has accepted a return and refund and subsequently changed their listing's to reflect they are a Chinese, not UK, company and that although their headsets are genuine they are sourced outside of the UK/EU.

I hope this clears things up a little better.

Again, that wasn't there on the original listing - the business address was listed in Manchester and only changed when i raised a case with EBay.

I think you are deliberately trying to be obnoxious/cause an argument.

Anyway, i will say it again - the EBay purchase was no cheaper than Amazon. I paid £42 from EBay and yeterday the cheapest on Amazon was £43 (now £46). So there was nothing in the price difference to call me a cheapskate and say i was after a bargain, hence i deserve what i got.

Chill, it's all sorted - i have my refund, the seller has his item and the seller has updated his listings so no other buyer will end up in the same situation as i did.

Have a great day and keep smiling.

OK, so you buy a £1k Nikon camera off this guy - same price as the high street shops. The item breaks and you take it your local Nikon store - who say "sorry, can't repair, this is a grey import and so no EU warranty".

If i wanted a grey, i would have paid less for the item and knowingly forgoing my rights to a warranty repair for a cheaper initial outlay - you takes yer chances so to speak.

But i wanted a UK product and everything about the sellers listing was telling you this was a UK product when it wasn't - it was misleading. To those who do not understand greys, the only time they would find out it was not a UK product is if it broke and they tried to get it repaired under warranty.

Crazy that some are saying they would accept this.

So we should boycott all third party sellers everywhere and only buy from official retailers because of this one bad seller?

He tried to mislead people, some will know, some will not. The fact that he has sold 500+ of this item shows that some are happy with their purchases, i was not which is why my return was actioned so quickly - he was in the wrong with his listing.
