Now dropped 40 quid from £329 to £289

bargain at this price!!!! Even at 329 it was a bargain.

Thanks for letting us know, I caved and bought it last night. I couldn't resist at the price! You can get a bit extra off (£8.67) by going via Quidco.

I've been looking at Carplay compatible stereos for ages and this unit has the cleanest UI (IMO) with exception of the Sony XAV-XA100. I don't feel it's worth the extra £90 nor do I feel like DAB is worth an extra £140 with the DMX-7017DABS.

If you have an iPhone the Tunein Radio app supports CarPlay and has those stations
Indeed it does, as does Radio player, but those streams are lower quality but the main issue is the amount of data required to be constantly streaming audio. it isn't practical as a permanent solution unless you have good signal everywhere and unlimited data. Its not the end of the world, just an annoyance.

Just like Dab requires a decent signal :p

The first step in getting anything done is raising awareness. If you remotely care about having decent radio quality in your car, start by telling everyone you know about the awfulness of DAB.

Indeed, any day now the government is expected to announce plans to open bidding on a new DAB multiplex - essentially a second parallel DAB network. Maybe the second multiplex can be DAB+ allowing the two technologies to be run in parallel for a time.

If that sounds promising, as ever the danger is that the bigger the fee paid at auction, the more stations licence holders will need to cram in to make the whole enterprise a goer.

Anyway, it's galling to see DAB continue to be marketed as a cutting edge technology delivering crystal-clear digital sound. We need to pull the rug out from under that fallacy. If paying punters universally sneer at the notion that DAB is a high quality service – as they should do – the message will surely begin to get through.

Let's get those noses crinkling and the tide turning against DAB in its current form. And for goodness sake, if we do get a chance to change the system let's get it right next time.

Installed and all working, VERY CHUFFED!! I had to steal a wire coat hanger from my neighbour so I could run all the cables (2x USB, GPS, Mic) behind the dash! :p

Thanks again @easyrider for the heads up on the offer :D

To be fair, DAB isn't that bad. I can listen to stations on the BBC and the national multiplexes on my commute to work which is ~60 miles up the A3 and A322 without any dropouts. I've also had it on the go all the way up from Portsmouth to Newcastle and various other places and it's been fine - generally all the motorways seem to have good coverage on the national multiplexes and I honestly can't remember the last time I had any signal dropouts. Even trips that involve veering a way off the motorways and onto back roads (various ones around Hampshire - around Alton, Hook, Odiham, Basingstoke, Aldershot etc) have been fine for me so far. I'm sure there are many parts of the country that aren't as good, but my experience of it is pretty good. That said, almost all my driving is said A3/A322 trips and trawling around motorways all over the place.

It's not the best tech and I could quite easily go without it, but I'm quite used to it after having had a DAB head unit in my car for 3 years now. I guess most people just don't care about it which is fair enough.

After a pretty stressful removal I finally got it all connected up

I can get power to the JVC but I get no sound?

I bought this

When you had to connect the P cont wire, did you have to connect it to the "Amp Remote" on the steering wheel control wire. I've just got this thing home and trying to make sense of all these wires before I dismantle half the interior :D. Those wires are the same colour, blue/white. Did you end up having to strip and crimp any other things together or just those? I guess the reverse wire would have to be done for your camera, might end up just running it through to the boot to save me hassle down the road.

The p control wire was crimped to the amp remote wire on the loom in order to turn on the Bose amp.

The brown wire on the steering module was crimped to the blue and yellow remote steering wire and the mini jack on the steering module inputted into the JVC

Cool thanks! So the brown one is "KEY1" or whatever, that's useful because I wasn't sure about that one despite the instructions saying that key1/jack needed to be connected to the JVC.

After much blood sweat and tears, I've installed the new unit :D. Pics to follow but I think I've got myself in trouble. I'm using Android (Auto) and I didn't bother connecting the parking brake wire since I figured it was optional. It won't let me setup AA now until the parking brake is engaged...not good :(

Update: So after connecting the parking wires together it still doesn't recognise the parking brake is on in AA. Also noticed that the volume controls on the steering wheel don't work, although mode/info etc still do...the joys!

Technically you're meant to either connect it to the handbrake switch or to a handbrake sensor cable that comes off the wiring harness but I didn't bother. My head unit just needed it to be grounded so I literally just connected the handbrake sense cable to the metal ground of the head unit itself. As long as you're not crazy enough to use the stuff it's meant to prevent while driving (like watching a movie) then I don't see the problem with doing that.

Yeah I tried connecting it to the handbrake switch with no joy, might try the grounding - seen that mentioned in a few threads regarding the issue.

Edit: Tried again using the park and it wasn't having it. Connected to ground and I now have the joys of Android Auto, amazing! :) Thanks all for the help!

@easyrider many thanks for the heads up. Bought!
@Sol @Meatball

Just got. A few questions regarding this unit if that's ok? Can you play movie files on it?
Do you have to connect your iPhone physically or via Bluetooth for car play?

Or is it both?

I don't think you can play movies, not unless there is an app that I'm missing that allows you to stream stuff. For Android Auto I have to connect it to the USB cable that comes out of the back of the head unit, you also need to have Bluetooth on for AA. Likely the same for Carplay.

AA = android auto?

Hi! CarPlay is only supported via USB connection, this unit doesn't support Wireless Carplay.

I've not tried movie files, it might be worth looking at the manual :).

EDIT, it does:

The volume control should work if you have connected the correct wire mate
