Are We Too Soft In This Country? ........

I'd refrain from replying seriously to Chris Wilson, he'd ship anyone unable to prove their heritage down to saxons/vikings off to an island and nuke it if he could.

Some things we are too soft on. There should be no place in a country for those that have fundamental issues with it...we should pay a government elsewhere to take such people.

On the other hand its pretty harsh for normal criminals who invariably come from a less educated background. We imprison, then release.... With a criminal record that then hinders later chances (and often without solving the initial problem..)

Definitely. Convicted foreign criminals should either be turned away at the boarder or sent home straight away. If they want to appeal, they can do it from their home country via the British embassy.

Of course.

Good welfare system
Soft prison system
Soft police
Soft immigration laws
Soft population (lots of lefty loonies)

Breeding ground for trouble.

Bloody foreigns going round and stealing all the appeals from hard working British criminals :mad:

But it is completely understandable why you couldn't deport someone knowing full well that the deportation would result in things like an execution, especially if your countries laws condemn it.

Article 8 of the European Convention of Human Rights - the right to family and private life. Time to get us out of that agreement, it was a good idea but designed for another time before multi-culturalism and mass immigration.

Those that would trade freedom for security will deserve and have neither.

Also, did you know Britain wrote the echr? What you're asking for is akin to wanting to magna carter rescinded.

The ECHR is nothing to do with the EU. Being a signatory is a requirement of EU membership, but they are entirely separate treaties.

I personally prefer to live in a country where the rule of law is important...
Me too, but the question is always; what laws should we have?

I know this, but it's ultimately a treaty enforced by another European court. Glad you agree there's no reason that we still have to be in it once we've left the EU and are an independent country again.

That's not what I said; it is a requirement for being in the EU, but that does not mean that we need to/should leave it once Brexit occurs.

Well it's fortunate that there is almost zero chance that we'll be leaving the echr.

Look at the USA - who have the reverse of those values;

Poor welfare system
Hard prison system
Hard police
Hard immigration laws

I certainly wouldn't use the USA as a benchmark in how to run society.

The beauty of law is it applies to everyone, equally and fairly. The European council promotes democracy, law and human rights and long may it do so. Not much chance of us ditching that. :)

Also has no relevance to Brexit.

If they aren't British and commit a crime, they should be deported after they have served their sentence. I don't see what there is to appeal? They were guests and committed a crime, we don't need them.

Heck, we should be deporting any foreigner who doesn't have a job too, along with their dependants.
