I'm thinking of getting a Samsung 850 evo 250gb ssd. how hard is it to make that my main drive so my pc boots from it and install windows on it. I would also like to keep my hdd I have already as it has aload of stuff on it I would like to keep.

also I have noticed some times when I enter task manager it is showing my hdd is highlighted in red and at 100% but other times its not any ideas why? thanks in advance

Remove all other drives data cable or power cable, fit the SSD, do a fresh install to that.

Once that's done connect the other drives back and transfer your personal docs, then install your usual applications

will that make the ssd my main boot drive then will it? and when I plug in my old hdd after will all the info on it still be on there ie all my games, applications and things

You'll need to double check boot order once all drives are reconnected as it may try and boot to the old drive.
yes old HD will have all docs, OS, and other files. So once you transfer all your docs you can do a quick format of the old drive.

Windows and application install doesn't take long. By the time you ghost a drive and do a restore you'd have already been in Windows fresh install and boot, so just install applications then.

Helps if you have a USB flash disc of Windows with latest updates and service packs.

thanks. I wont be able to fit all my games on the ssd so I was just goin to transfer the main ones I play and the o/s to the ssd, so would I be able to leave the other games on my old hdd and run them from there if I do decide to play them and would I be able to just uninstall windows 10 from my old hdd so I don't have to format the old drive

yup, you can typically just run the exe from the HD.

Some games require a reinstall for example fall out/skyrim you can run it but install puts entries into registry.

You'll lose save games, as that will be on your regular HD, so once you run the game, quit, then find the save files from the old HD and copy them to the identical location on the SSD.

ie copy from D:\users\yourname\my documents\my games\
to

C:\users\yourname\my documents\my games\

i know its unrelated, but it's always worth saying:
back up your (essential) data beforehand (or just back up your data in general)

Any update on how are you liking the speed on your new setup?? @Bersher88 I have a 2TB seagate drives as my SSHHD which is working seamlessly with my SSD in my signature, personal what you doing it is a good choice. Regarding windows you could just delete the folder, but when i freshly installed windows on my SSD, i formatted my hard also and started fresh, but that can only work if you have a temp HDD laying around like i normally do with my backup system files....lol
